Foundation for Dry Skin.

Hey Beauties,

I have a lot of foundations but nothing is doing its job.

I use the Laura Mercier foundation and that works but its just not hitting the spot for me.

I am after a foundation that is
-Best for Dry skin
-full coverage
-Liquid Foundation
-Lasting power 😀
-Summer is coming so something that wont melt off.

Any suggestions do let me know 🙂

Thanks Petal for your advice. For now I will stick with MOMMA , since I am only going to apply makeup every now and then. It was my first discovery bag, lucky I got to try MOMMA

The thread that I started was about companies that offered samples of mineral makeup. BareMinerals doesn’t provide samples of their mineral powders as far as I’m aware. Anyway, it contains bismuth, so I wouldn’t use their mineral powder.

As for me using rose hip oil under foundation, it is only an experiment because my skin is dry and dehydrated. When I look at my makeup in a magnifying mirror, many liquid foundations appear cakey. I’ve been experimenting with different tools and application methods to improve the appearance of foundation.

If longevity is your only priority with a primer, then most of them should do the trick. L’oreal Base Magique Transforming Smoothing Primer has received excellent reviews. If your budget is really tight, Face of Australia have three primers.

MOMMA mineral powder can be applied with a kabuki brush or even the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. The kabuki brush will probably give a lighter appearance.

After some research online, seems like smash box hydrating (blue) and Laura mercier hydrating primer are the most recommended for dry skin. I want to start using a primer, can someone advise their experience with theses two are any other primers for dry skin?

Also, l read that for dry flaky skin, should avoid the buffing motion when applying foundation, does that mean mineral powder is not suitable?

*Cocoabutter*, I only started experimenting with primers a year ago. I am undecided about whether they do much for dry skin like mine. I started with Benefit POREfessional and I think it was too mattifying. I am now experimenting with Becca Rejuvenating Primer and Nude by Nature Undercover Airbrush Primer. Both contain glycerin and are silicone-free. They have helped reduce the cakey look of a few foundations. I am also trying Dermalogica Age Smart Skin Perfect Primer which has not improved the appearance of any foundation I’ve used it with, but it has slightly improved longevity of foundation (my skin sucks up foundation, probably thinking that it is moisture). I have just bought a silicone-free primer by Korres, but I don’t intend trying it until I’ve used up my other ones.

I have been experimenting with using rose hip oil under foundations. Sometimes it helps the appearance of foundation; sometimes it doesn’t help much. I have a jar of a product that contains hyaluronic acid which I’m going to try under foundation one day.

I mentioned in another thread that for dry skin it is best to not use a makeup brush to apply liquid foundation because that creates micro exfoliation (a texturising effect) on dry skin (a sponge or fingers are better). I use 100% mineral powder foundations and there is no need to buff them into skin. I apply the powder with a kabuki brush. Apparently, the buffing motion is only needed for mineral powders that contain bismuth oxychloride (which I don’t buy because they make my skin itchy).

I have tried samples of quite a few 100% mineral powder foundations. Some looked better on my skin than others. You can buy samples of mineral powder foundations from some companies. I started a thread on this subject:

There is another brand which I haven’t yet included on that thread which is MOMMA. They are a company which recently joined BH. I bought their samples and they looked good on my skin.

Petals, thanks so much for sharing your experience. I am surprised you tried rosehip oil under foundation! I thought too much oil isn’t good for foundation, but then I don’t I now much about makeup.

I haven’t applied makeup for several months because my eczema made my forehead very flaky and I had to reapply moisturiser every 2 hours. Now that my skin has improved, and with the upcoming pre – Christmas dinners and parties I want to put a bit of makeup on.

Hmm on this thread I am surprised bare minerals wasn’t mentioned much.

If I want my make up to last longer I don’t have to get a primer especially for dry skin, just any primer? I was kicking myself for not even checking the nude by nature primer during the price line sale. Guess that’s what happens when you are stressed and tired.

I was part of the discovery bag trial for MOMMA, their mineral powder seemed fine to my skin. Instead of buffing the powder on my face, i just sweep it across my face with the kabuki brush?

Hi Mel, I use to have both eczema and pimples previously. If there is anything I have learnt, it’s best to treat your skin first because it will show when you have make-up anyway. After getting rid of my pimples, to treat my eczema I used a milk-based cleanser as it’s gentle on our skin. For dry skin for ourselves, using a serum will also help. Look for olive oil in the ingredients. It’s proven that it will help with dry skin.

I used to use Revlon Color Stay for dry skin when my skin was really dry a couple years ago. It’s a liquid foundation and the coverage is buildable. I’m not sure if it will melt off so maybe set it with powder before you leave home.

I get dry patches and I found the Bourjois 123 Perfect foundation to be one of the best in terms of not making them stand out.

My skin looks the best though right after I exfoliate and moisturise, it just sits more evenly. Also using a good hydrating primer helps, and getting a really blendable liquid foundation.

I have been reaching for Max Factor Skin Luminizer Foundation.
I just realised I have mentioned this foundation before but I am loving it more, the more I use it.
I am so impressed with how it goes on, feels on the skin, the finish and it lasts! It holds its own against the more expensive options. The matching pen is a bit of a dupe for the Touche Eclat highlighter pen, too.
So I would give it a go because its not just good for the price, it’s good.

Sounds like an interesting product, I may also pick it up when it goes on sale…

I have dry skin and this foundation is on my wishlist for the next time Priceline have their 40% off cosmetics sale. Glad to hear you like it. I’m even more keen to try it now 🙂
