Cosmetics and skincare shopping in Japan – hints and ideas?

Hi ladies,

I’m going to Japan in September and I’m interested in having a poke around some cosmetics places while I’m there (would you expect any less from a fellow Beauty Heavenarian?).

Are there any places or brands that I should look out for? I’m aware of Sk-II and Duty Free so far.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

I’ve reported the previous post as spam. The products are natural, but the websites are not in English.

Hi Rockie, terribly embarrassed here, I didn’t mean to call you Roxy, sooo embarrassed as I hide my big head behind the sofa. Sorry! Have an extra wonderful time in Japan due to my poor eyesight and even worse typing 🙂

I’m heading to Japan soon and I was wondering if anyone had any other recommendations. Being the beauty obsessed person I am, I’m definitely going to pick up some (or a lot of) japanese beauty products. I’m definitely going to pick up some cheap lashes, the ones I have from Daiso are actually really good. Probably also going to pick up some Majolica Majorca mascara. I would love to hear about some amazing japanese skincare.

Does anyone know if international japanese brands like shu uemura and shiseido are actually cheaper in japan?

Also besides beauty products is there anything else I should buy?

    How exciting Roxy.
I haven’t been to Japan recently but I do love the Japanese biscuits…..they are just the best imo. I buy them here in Melbourne Central.
If you like flaky, but not sickeningly sweet biscuits, the Genji pie biscuit is tops! It’s heart shaped flakey biscuits and really nice. Basically anything should be good, including the vanilla and chocolate cream biscuits. Sorry I dont know the brand for these. But even the boxes look sleek and appealing!

Have a fantastic time in Japan. And thoroughly enjoy yourself!

Thanks for the heads up, this works perfectly with my plan to eat and shop in Japan. And thanks, I definitely will enjoy myself

    Hi RockieHazel,
My sister travelled to Japan recently and she told me that pharmacies have a great range of skin care which is very affordable, including Shiseido. Apparently Shiseido has both a “drug store” price point and also a more up market range in the department stores. She bought back for me a few Japanese sunscreens to try out and the Kose cloth face masks which are super cheap. Apparently $7AU for about 30??
Have fun, can’t wait to see your haul when you return 🙂

Wow sounds like I definitely need to pick up those masks. I’ve always wanted to try out shiseido sunscreens, especially their foundation with spf 50+. Guess I’ll have to check out those. I will definitely have a haul when I get back

I agree with everyone’s posts here. I went there last year around September and whilst the place is beautiful and the experience is incredible I don’t really suggest beauty shopping over there unless you’re into high end brands then of course, go crazy!

Anything to do with lashes over there is great! Drugstore or high end have both got you covered. The pharmacies there stock amazing products and really good face masks but that being said its not crazy cheap but somethings will be drastically cheaper or just better quality in general. I got loads of handcreams for around $1 that smelt lovely like Sakura (Cherry Blossom). Oh and if you’re looking into skincare make sure you read up on whitening ingredients before you go because majority of Japanese skincare contains whitening ingredients! That was a hard one for me to figure out so just a heads up.

Shop around and chat to locals, if you stick to the main areas in Japan most people speak English and are super polite – more than happy to help you out always.

    Enjoy your trip! 🙂

Im leaving for japan in 4 days and defiantly excited for the cosmetics i assume i will spending hours looking at makeup haha ! Does anyone have any good recommendations for mascara ?

Kiss Me Heroine Make mascaras are the ultimate. Makes your lashes look false, and completely waterproof. I’ve had 30 minute showers wearing this and my eyelashes were still perfectly curled and black with the slightest of smudge. You do need serious remover to get it off, so consider picking up the matching remover when you buy.
