Contouring and highlighting for pale skin

I’d love some help and recommendations on products to find a contour and highlight for my skin.

The ones I’ve tried are too dark and make me look like Frankenstein (in my opinion anyway). I’ve uploaded a photo of my cheek for reference. (Sorry about the redness!)

I’m pale but not deathly pale, any advice would be fantastic!

I think Maybelline has come out with a new one too. Not sure whether it is for various skin tones.

I noticed that Australis have a new contour highlighting palette for fair skin.

Keep in mind when it comes to Ben Nye, I would go for the powder versus the cream (unless you want a very heavy coverage).

For example: the Ben Nye Banana Powder for setting is a cult favourite and I personally love it (even though they still have not done anything to improve the cap on the lid). However their concealer and makeup palettes are very heavy and do not suit every skin tone. If you have great skin, it works well. If you’re doing stage work or studio work, then it will do the trick. But if your skin is oily, dry, flaky, has large pores, I personally find the cream palettes less fun than other makeup.

    Just my ten cents x

I’m also pale. I’ve been thinking of buying a contouring product that is recommended for pale skin by Illamasqua. It is their Cream Pigment in Hollow.

You can always just use a taupe eyeshadow for contouring from MAC or Bobbi Brown. I recently bought a MAC blush in the shade Harmony for contouring, but it is still too warm-toned for my liking.

Another product I’m considering is a Ben Nye contouring product or taupe eyeshadow:

There’s too many good recommendations in here so I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for recommending so many options, will be trying these out over the coming weeks.

When I do full on makeup, I do my contour in foundation and then set it (or cook it, depending on your terminology) with powder, and then do a contour over the top. But then, I’m taking hard core Haifa Wehbe makeup here.

If you can do that with skin like mine, then you can do it with any skin tone.

Do you know MAC shade you are? It may help in recommendations from people with similar skin to yours (eg: NW 20 etc).

I’m fairly pale (NW20 in MAC) and use NYX Taupe blush. I’ve also just bought the Models Perfer Highlight/Contour duo and have loved it so far. The contour shade is not too dark and blends out well, so you don’t end up looking like you have a beard.

I’ve never considered using foundation before – that would be insanely easier!
    Thanks everyone!

On the same thoughts as Theuglyduckling, the Revlon Insta-Fix foundation I was lucky to trial with Beautyheaven would be ideal for contouring, it’s so easy to blend.
There was a few light shades which might suit you.
