Coastal scents worth the hype ?

Hey guys, so I know the hype around the coastal scents eyeshadow palletes was a while ago, but Ive been watching a couple of videos where people have used them so im tempted to buy the original 88 pallete from their website. Just wondering if anyone has this pallette and if its worth buying. The price doesnt worry me (its only $25 AUD) but I would love to know if im wasting money on a product that isnt that great

I bought the Crush Cosmetics 88 Palette which I am assuming is very similar if not the same company just rebranded. I saw great reviews so thought I would purchase it – BIG MISTAKE. I got it yesterday and was disappointed.

While it will be great playing with colors, majority arent highly pigmented. There is alot of fall out even when you press into the eyelid and when you put your brush into the palette it crumbles. The more pearly ones are better, but the matte ones are just awful.

    I wouldnt buy it again…..

I also got my UD Naked 2 palette the same morning and it craps all over the CC 88 palette, its worth the money.

Unless you really want a million different colours I wouldn’t bother. I’ve had 3 of them (original, warm and shimmer) and none of them were that great. You could do much better buying something like Wet’n’Wild trios and palettes or NYX eyeshadows from somewhere like Nonpareil Boutique or Crush Cosmetics or even eBay.

Coastal Scents is pretty pricy on shipping as well so if you do want an 88 palette I’d say go eBay.

After watching all the positive reviews on YouTube I bought two of these palettes – the 88 shimmer and the warm one.

To be honest I hate the warm palette, the colours are not pigmented enough for my liking and are too chalky. But the 88 shimmer is not so bad and I like using it to create bright looks for my tutorials but it doesn’t contain colours I would wear every day nor are they long lasting. However they are very shimmery which is great for makeup tutorials as I said but not really much else. There are so many better quality alternatives for the price.

Overall, I would rather save up and buy an Urban Decay palette, they are amazing quality and also have a great selection of colors.

You can get them off ebay but they are sold as fake macs or just plain palettes. I have a 96 palette but wasn’t too impressed.

Quite honestly, the 88 palette isn’t bad– it’s just not amazing. There are many nice, vibrant colors, but the matte shades can be a bit patchy, and the shimmery shades all have a silver shimmer instead of the shade’s shimmer. I have many MAC, MUFE, Illamasqua, Sugarpill, etc. palettes, so I don’t reach for the 88 palette often, but I do believe that it is a genuine starter palette and introduces you to bright colors on the eye.

You have made the right decision when there are so many better palettes then it is better to spend your hard earned money on them rather than on some passing fade

They are many companies that sell those palettes.

I have the 88 shimmer, matte and warm palettes and find them pretty hard to work with. but each shadow is different. some are good some not so much. the shimmers are the best out of them, but VERY shimmery. a damp brush helps application a bit with them too (but makes it harder to blend), and I find they don’t last all that well, even on primed eyes.

I find they’re good if you like to experiment (and can find them at a good price!) but they’re not all that good for everyday – when you need it to last.

they’re not a replacement of good quality eyeshadows.

for good quality eyeshadows I find Inglot are great (I have only swatched MAC but from that I do think Inglot is better IMO), and work out quite cheap with the freedom system, you pay for the palette ($ depends on size) and each shadow is then $10 and comes with a a lot of product. I also really like Sleek palettes.

Thanks for that. Ive been reading reviews from blogs in the states and UK and I think im gonna skip buying it. I think ill just save my pennies up to get another MAC palette instead of getting the coastal scents

They have been very popular and are a bit hit and miss. There are so many of these palettes out now ..they are pretty much all the same just renamed for the different companies. There are some good colours in them and there are some ordinary ones too. These palettes are great if you are just starting out as they give you heaps of colours to play with but there are definately lots of much better shadows out there to purchase.
