Make up Prices in Australia

Cosmetics in Australia are definately more expensive compared to overseas. I sometimes buy cosmetics duty free when I travel. I was recently in Dubai and was looking at some Clinique products which were more expensive there than here which was surprising.

As an American in Australia I get a mini heart attack browsing at the mall. But you have to understand Australian businesses pay higher rent for store space and higher wages to employees. And let’s not forget bills such as electricity ($15 per month in US for me vs $350 plus quarterly here in Au). Although if you follow American news you will know the pay gap is slowly closing and prices for rent and consumer products will inflate over there as a consequence. But my point is Aussie prices are inflated because of factors such as currency rates and the cost of running establishments that manufacture and/or import and sell these products which is currently much more costly than the US.
With all that being said, there are areas where prices could be more affordable but isn’t because of pure greed

Um, I dont understand how we can compare when the minimal wage in Australia is double that in the states and triple most others.
I agree with pretty princess we get free health care and other things.
I’m not too upset about paying more because it helps to pay wages.

I did a blog post a few weeks ago on US vs Aus prices. I was actually surprised at how much difference there was on some products!

That was really interesting to see. I know that MAC products are usually quite overmarked in Australia which is why I always pick them up overseas or get friends to grab them for me. It was interesting to see how we actually save on certain products but as you’ve mentioned, this is with relatively low AUD.
