Toner – how important is it to you?

I have mature skin but am still subject to break outs. I thought that it would be one thing that I would not have to worry about. So the toner I use is the one aimed at controlling acne. When I think of the amount of time and effort I put into choosing all other aspects of what I put on my skin I was wondering if I am using the right Toner for my skin. Sometimes I even skip that part of my routine. I was wondering how important Toner is to the Beauties on the board plus what works for you as I have not done any home work on this product. How important is it in your routine and what would you recommend?

I must confess I stopped using toner about two years ago. I am going to have to start again. I’ve been having small break outs and I’m over them. I am going to try a few toners mentioned in the thread. I’ve got sensitive skin and the toners I used in my 20s are a bit too harsh.

I’ve recently started using a toner again after a good 5 or so years off them and I am all for it. I think it provides a nice base before putting moisturiser on; now it just feels weird to put moisturiser straight on after cleansing!
Plus it makes my skin feel a lot better 🙂

I would avoid any toner with alcohol or fragrance as it can dry and strip your skin of natural oils, making skin produce more oil and breakouts.I dont bother with a toner myself, just cleanse and go over my skin with face wipes and water to remove any excess makeup and always apply my face oil or serum to damp skin.Jurlique have a really nice rose water mist that i would recommend, similar to a toner.

I’ve never been able to use traditional toners. I find them too harsh for my skin. I’ve been using Avene water for years, but I’m currently using Jurlique rose facial mist.

I’m a huge fan of the Innoxa toner, it’s so gentle & never irritating for my sensitive tzone.

I’m currently using an oil-free toner from Olay that is also beautifully gentle. Sukin also make a Hydrating Face Mist that is both a beautiful toner and cooling face mist in the one product

I am a sucker for toner, I used to used the clearasil toner in the blue bottles and loved it. I then moved onto proactiv and use their toner. I feel like it keeps everything at bay and helps rid my skin of impurities.

I didn’t start using toners until about a year and a half ago, when I was trialling Nivea Pure & Natural toner for BH. I loved it at the time, but then I realised it contained alcohol and my skin slowly became irritated so I stopped using it. I switched to Natio toner – while it’s alcohol-free, it does contain fragrance. It didn’t irritate me, but doesn’t seem to do much for my skin either.

I now use Innoxa super sensitive toner, which is fragrance- and alcohol-free. Dare I say…HOLY GRAIL for me 🙂 I did have occasional pimple breakouts, and since I started using this, my skin has improved heaps.

Tanks for your advice! I might try the Natio one as the Innoxa one is a bit out of my price range and I don’t mind fragrance

I used to love using it and being able to see all the yucky stuff that was being removed from my skin. Unfortunately any toner I used would dry my face out horribly, so I stopped using the stuff.
Is there something else I can use, like an essential oil or something, that wont dry out my face?

Try using a Hydrosol they are 100% natural, being the by-product of the distillation of essential oils. I would suggest Rose Hydrosol which is an ideal toner for normal to dry and sensitive skins.

Look for an alcohol free toner, i’m guessing that’s what was drying your skin out.
Or Milcellar water might be beneficial for you.
