Shaving rash

I get shaving rash, and i think its because i have super sensetive skin. Has anybody found holy grail products they use with shaving?

I binge-date throughout winter, to make up for summer when I go into my hibernation, so I’ve been epilating fully through winter.

Okay so this is a bit gross but since it’s winter, it doesn’t matter that much. I have sensitive skin as well and I let my hair grow out pretty long before shaving (around a week). This is less irritating for my skin as i’m not constantly disturbing it

For treatment of a rash, use something gentle and natural like tea tree oil, coconut oil, or aloe vera.

Gently exfoliate the skin before with I find this really helpful. Look more towards sugar scrubs that salt ones as sugar is more gentle on the skin 🙂

Wait until you are fresh out of the shower. That way your hair and skin is already softened. Then I would use conditioner, which further softens the hair. There is a natural brand from the supermarket which is super cheap. Smooth over the legs and shave away (plus the conditioner is easy peasy to remove from the razor blades). Your legs will be easy to rinse. You might want to pop into the shower again.

If you get bumps, swipe on a bit of witch hazel using a cotton pad, and then perhaps some Tea Tree lotion in lieu of an after shave care lotion (as it’s antibacterial).

That’s what I did after getting seriously bad ingrown hairs and razor burn from using a brand razor with the built in soap (the sugar berry one). It was a nightmare. Legs are recovered fully now.

Try hair conditioner too, this is very gentle

I brought a electric wet dry shaver, the coconut oil is a great idea. If only i was womanly strong enough to use an epilator or do waxing lol. The back and forth with the razor makes sense too, i didnt think of doing that!

I don’t shave for this reason, only wax because I would get the same thing as well as ingrown hairs. My only tips that minimized problems for me were these:
    1. Pre-prep the skin by rubbing some pure coconut oil on the skin (from supermarket).
    2. Use only single blade razors and toss them immediately after use.
    3. Use a light back and forward motion not a lift, drag and place down as it keeps blade clean and stops it grabbing on your skin. I know it seems silly, rubbing gently back and forward but it works, a beautician told me this.
    4. poster above said avoid soaps, shaving creams etc use sorbolene, either that or use hair conditioner as it does same thing.
    5. Immediately after shaving wipe the area with witch hazel (I use the bottle version, TN Dickinsons from Priceline not the pre-impregnated pads they are awful), as this cools the skin, lightly disinfects and calms.
    6. Avoid commercial products/moisturizing immediately after, if you need to add something to prevent dryness use pure coconut oil.
    7. avoid tight clothing like jeans or tights etc, loose clothing is best after shaving.

This worked for me but I got tired of the routine and switched to waxing 🙂

Whatever you use, just make sure it’s got no perfume in it. Even regular sorbolene has usually got fragrance of some kind if you read through the ingredients list. I usually epilate, because I had the shaving rash problem. On rare occasions when I shave, I use fragrance-free sorbolene INSTEAD OF SHAVING CREAM! It’s brilliant! Afterwards, you don’t need to carefully rinse off every skerrick of product, you just make sure all the loose stubble is rinsed off & rub any remaining sorbolene into the skin.
