red, tight and itchy skin.

Yesterday I woke to discover my skin (face) felt tight, tender and itchy (especially around my chin area). Looking in the mirror it appears quite red. It actually feels like I have been sunburnt (this is not the case). Even my forehead feels flaky. My skin is ultra oily so I not used to tight feeling skin.
I have no idea what has caused this – I have not used anything (ie creams or soaps) on my face for the last 3 days. It is really weird as I have never experienced this before.
Does anyone have any suggestions to help sooth my skin. Never having experienced this before I am a bit stumped and with my chin (in particular) feeling itchy I would appreciate any help/suggestions

a couple of years ago I tried an organic skincare range & something in there wasn’t agreeing with my skin – I had the flaky red patches near my lips, it was dry, exfoliating wasn’t removing it, and I (rightly) assumed I couldn’t use this range – though I’m not sure what ingredient I reacted to.

    I found a Trilogy product helped enormously – http://www.beautyheaven.com.au/skin-care/DIY-skin-treatments/24435-trilogy-sensitive-very-gentle-calming-serum

it was so, so soothing. cleared up my issue in no time, and I then just used it over the following months anytime I felt my sensitive tzone was under stress or feeling tight.

    Hey!

Hope your skin is better now.

For any skin allergies or rash, concentrated salt solution is a handy remedy. Dabbing the salt solution should curb many different allergies and rashes. After rinsing with salt water solution, consider applying Calamine solution, or Calendula oil is a good idea.

Yes, like Tashee noted, Rosehip oil is a great idea too.

    Hope it helps.

    Best Regards

Home Remedies for Dry Skin on Face

    Moisturize
Moisture keeps skin hydrated. Thicker moisturizers, such as OTC brands Eucerin and CetaphilOils, work best. Oils such as bay oil, tend to be better at trapping the water on your skin than the various moisturizing creams available. You can also use Olive Oil and Egg Yolk, Coconut Oil, Lemon Juice and Sugar and Almond Oil

    Humidify
Winter is not a friend to dry skin. The heating in homes evaporate the water from the air, which makes the air very dry. Humidifiers come in useful at a time like this by adding moisture to the air, and thus benefiting your dry skin. Either humidify the whole room or get a portable humidifier.

Glad to hear the rose hip oil helped. It was going to be my suggestion. As well as Moo Goo moisturisers maybe try Akin unscented 24 hour moisture until your skin calms down. If it is allover, try their unscented shampoo and conditioner. Very good for a dry reacting scalp and the skin on your body. we forget our shower products rundown over our bodies some times.
Glad to hear it is all healing.
Another little trick you can use the Argan Oil, for your hair, on your body. If you get caught out with dry skin and limited products.

    Thanks Petal!
I have emailed the copany re’ my reaction and hope they will get back to me soon.
My skin has definitely calmed down, the redness has virtually gone but my chin area still is a bit tender.
I was actually really quite shocked as I have never experienced anything like this before (in my whole 45 years!).
The great suggestion to use rosehip really worked (I would normally just break off some of my aloe vera plant – unfortunately ‘someone’ threw it out thinking it wasn’t very pretty!).
I had great things about this product – that’s why I bought some.I suppose I just need to be more careful in future

lynnellew, great to hear that your skin is recovering!

lynnellew, I hope the irritation on your face is starting to calm down. If you have a look at the reviews on Makeupalley for the Yes To Cucumbers facial towelettes, there are comments with people experiencing stinging skin. You’d think that with so many complaints, that the company would remove the offending ingredient. I’m guessing that it is the glycerin as I’ve heard of a few people being sensitive to it, although it could be one of the preservatives.

I gets lots of rashes and skin irritations. My most-used soothing products are aloe vera gel, calendula oil, petroleum-free pawpaw ointment, or one of the MooGoo creams.

Sezaluke90 suggested to use rosehip oil or vitamin C serum. I wouldn’t usually contradict someone, but vitamin C can also cause stinging skin (I’ve just discovered this for myself).

    Thanks Petal!

Goodness! I don’t think i’ll re-purchase those wipes just in case something makes it make me breakout sometime!
I’m so glad to hear the rose hip work! I love it since i bought a full size!

Petal, It may have been vitamin C that targets something else, I tried the Ella Bache Vitamin C serum when i worked there and every time i used it it tingled because it was very active and revolved around radiance. The Organic spa vitamin C serum i now stock is for repairing i recommend it for all my oily clients because it promotes cell renewal. lynnellew would be best to start with rose hip oil but vitamin c is another option if she its too sensitive to repair her skin.
