Natural cold sore remedies?

Cold sores appear to be the thing that is plaguing this pregnancy for me. I’ve had 3 in the last 4 months. Yay! 🙁 My go-to cold sore remedy is aloe gel, which I’ve found works as well as Zovirax and is safe to use during pregnancy, but it still takes awhile to get rid of the nasty things.

If someone knows of a super speedy remedy, I’d love to know about it!

Alcohol and tea tree oil really dries the blister out which is good, the lipbalm Carmex also works wonders!

    Honestly Tabitha try Hydrogen Peroxide.

It stops it from getting any bigger and it just dries it out so it can heal faster. I had one and although I have had it for 4 days it is barely noticeable to anyone else. I can just feel it. I have been soaking it in Hydrogen Peroxide like 5 times a day and it is nearly gone now.

I suffer from cold sores on my mouth and in my nose. I find that nothing works. The creams on the market are just a waste of time. Lysine tablets are the best thing. I started taking them in my late teens and took them everyday for a while. I found I wasn’t getting as many coldsores. Now I am 30 and I don’t take the tablets regularly. I am forgetful! I still get cold sores when I am sick, stressed or in the colder months. I usually give myself a double dosing of tablets a soon as I feel the cold sore and continue to take the tablets until it is gone. I find that they help reduce the severity and dry it out much quicker. One time I had a massive cold sore and the pharmacist told me to triple dose. It really helped. If you were to take the tablets everyday I think it would almost eliminate the cold sores all together.

Next time try tooth paste, especially one with baking soda in it.

After a cold sore has come up, there’s not too much you can do. Zovirax does help it heal faster, but it actually works best to stop them from coming up in the first place. I used to get cold sores every few months, but now whenever a feel a tingle, I apply the Zovirax cream. It stops them in their tracks and I haven’t had one for ages, except once when I left my cream at home.

This is weird, I just got one after not having one in ages as well, I think its the change in weather. But I have been drowning it in off the shelf hydrogen peroxide which I got at coles and I have been applying it like 3-5 times a day and it hasn’t got noticeable or worse. Hopefully by tomorrow it will be gone but honestly its a miracle. It has stopped it from going through the cycle and I am really hoping it just dies down to nothing now.

Lysine is apparently the best supplement for preventing cold sores but I’ve never had much luck. When I get them I alternate between Zovirax in the first couple of days to dampen down the virus and then switch to the Compeed patches to stop it from drying out and scarring. Any scars that I have had do fade over time.

Lysine really helped me this time around. I felt the tingle on Wednesday, started taking lysine on Thursday and my cold sore started drying up and crusting over the next day. Now it’s Monday and the scab has come off and it’s much less noticeable, I think it’s one of those things that’s worth trying, but sometimes it’s going to be more effective than other times. It might depend on your overall health at the time. At the moment I’m just completely drained so the lysine supplement I’m taking (Blackmores), which contains vitamin C and zinc as well, might have been the thing I needed to give my immune system a bit of a boost.
