Mylanta as a primer?

Hi ladies,

I have one REALLY oily t-zone and usually by midday my face looks like glad wrap. So I was doing some reading and I watched a video by gossmakeupartist who highly recommends milk of magnesia (which you can’t buy in Australia). I did some reading and found that some women are using Mylanta as a primer before applying their foundation.

Just wanted to know if anyone has used this and if it worked well for them?

After watching Goss’ video about milk of magnesia, I grabbed my mylanta and applied it all over my t-zone. It didn’t work on me at all. At first, it felt a bit tight, but after a while, it was shiny again like normal. So, it wasn’t effective.

I’m all for using products from the kitchen in my beauty routine, but Mylanta? I wouldn’t even drink it, let alone put it on my skin.

I have never heard of this technique before and Id interested in hearing from you ladies here on BH that have tried it.

Yeah I dunno if I’d be brave enough to try this.. I understand how it -may- work but I just don’t think it’d really work long term but it sounds like it would be quite harsh and drying on the skin too (Hence the ‘mattifying effect’ it’ll have. I think it may look great in a photo or 2, but in person it would probably crack off.. Eww.

I think I will just stick to the products that are marketed to do the job properly 🙂

Mylanta? Like the heart burn stuff? Never thought of using it as a primer & never would try it.

I’m going to start doing this tomorrow.
If you ‘youtube’ Chloe morello you will find it on her page, video is ‘how to keep your face matte’
I can’t wait to use it.

I imagine it would leave a sticky, chalky mess on your face. No thanks!

I couldn’t find anything in Australia (don’t think it’s available here any more) but found a site where I purchased it for $15.98 including postage. For 355ml I thought that was pretty reasonable! Anyway, stoked about my find I went raving about it to my Mum. I jumped on Google to show her the thread I’d found, then I see this link for “Milk of Magnesia/Mylanta”! After doing a double take I’m like “Hey! You can get this at the supermarket!”.

After reading further into it I realised they contain the same active ingredient, magnesium hydroxide. Milk of Magnesia is more concentrated with 1200mg to a 15ml dose, and Mylanta contains 400mg to a 10ml dose. Not wanting to wait for the Milk of Magnesia to arrive from USA, I raced out and grabbed some Mylanta for less than $5!

That night I threw it on and WOW. By morning I had some oil but not like I usually would, but what I noticed most was that my breakouts had reduced significantly! This product is AMAZING.

All you do is shake up the bottle and apply a thin layer under your make up. Ps: My theory is if it’s gentle enough to consume for stomach issues, it’s gentle enough for my face!

Ohhhh! LIQUID Mylanta! I’m a bit silly. Was totally thinking of the tablet form and wondering how on Earth that would work. Haha!
