Makeup Brushes for a Beginner

I’m new to the world of makeup and while it’s exciting, it’s also a bit daunting. Earlier this year, I purchased mineral makeup foundation, primer and blush along with a kabuki brush. I’ve just purchased some eyeshadow palettes from Urban Decay (Electric Palette and Naked 1 & 3), so that’s a few doubled-ended eye brushes there.

What I’d like to know is, what brushes are must-have essentials/the basics for someone starting out? I was thinking of buying a brush set, but with doing that, I probably wouldn’t end up using all of them, so maybe buying individually is best. So far, I’ve been looking into Real Techniques and EcoTools (both are recommendations I found on here in response to another beginner), but I’m open to suggestions. What I like about these though, is that these brands are cruelty free and a reasonable price. Oh, and I’m definitely in the market for a good lip brush.

All these different makeup brushes are a little (cough a lot cough) confusing and daunting to a newbie, so any help would be much appreciated!

I’ve been using Natio and body shop and have found them both to be really good. Easy to wash and really smooth on the skin, also they’re not ridiculously expensive

Real Techniques are great! I own the powder brush, stippling brush, and expert face brush. Unfortunately, these brushes are 2 to 3 times more expensive here than in the US. Not fair! They are, however, very easy to get your hands on if you check out your local Priceline. If you’re looking for more affordable brushes than you can’t go wrong with EcoTools, amazing value for money.

However, the BEST MAKEUP BRUSHES I’ve ever used are definitely Zoeva. They’re a German makeup/brush company that’s received a lot of hype in the last year or so, and I just love them. It’s not worth buying just a few brushes from them because the AUS dollar isn’t worth that much. What I did was buy a set, and that worked out to be about $10 a brush. Amazing value!

I’ve ordered the Zoeva Rose Gold set today from Beautybay. Can’t wait to get it!

I didn’t know that Beauty Bay sold Zoeva…. Added to my wishlist for later! 😀

Zoeva is a very recent addition to Beautybay. The Rose gold set has already sold out a couple of times. I know I could get it cheaper from Luxola with various discount codes, but they haven’t had stock for ages and I didn’t want to wait anymore. I can’t wait for it to arrive. I want it NOW!

I also ordered an EOS lipbalm, and some CND cuticle stuff.

Edit – my parcel has been dispatched! Yippee!

Rose_P I didn’t know Beautybay stocks them! i have been eyeing the rose gold set for a while….just need to justify my reason for buying new set of brushes a bit before making purchase!

From what I’ve already heard about these brushes, I think it will still be worth it even at the Beauty Bay price. Enjoy your goodies!!!

My first proper brushes were by sigma and I could definitely tell the difference. I’ve heard good things about Real Techniques so I’ll definitely be buying those next 🙂
