Lipstick drying my lips out

Hi Ladies,

So I have tried a few lipsticks (Revlon, Lancome, Maybelline) and all of them make my lips dry after 1 hour or so. I don’t really want to keep reapply lip balm because that’ll wash off my lipstick and if I apply too much lip balm before lipstick, my lips will just look super oily. How do I prevent lips from peeling throughout the day because they look so dry?

Thanks in advance!

For me Ronii, Burts Bees has been my number one lip balm. I find if I use Revlon lipsticks (any of them) for too long, my lips dry out. I always carry a lip balm around but it is always a Burts, with a recent foray into EOS. For years I have only ever used Burts and have only recently been swayed by EOS because of their near 100% natural / organic ingredients. I have a Burts in my bedside, in my desk drawer, in my handbag and in my travel kit. It literally goes with me everywhere. If I have a major lip issue, then I go for hard core medicated, and that is a baby balm.

I did not like KORA at all. That is currently sitting in with my nail stuff. If you really want to try it, I have a second tube, completely untouched, if you want to do a swapsies.

What I usually do is to make sure that I drink plenty of water all the time by always having a bottle of water with me, and also, I exfoliate my lips with an old toothbrush and then apply lip balm to it before it gets too dry. Hopefully this helps xx

I have lips that are always chapped and flaky and the only product that has really made a difference is Bite Beauty’s Agave Lip Mask. The product is in this tiny little tube but it lasts for soooo long because the product is so thick!

God this is an age old question! Unfortunately there is no one size fits all. I tend to use lots of lip balm before applying lipstick but sometimes that doesn’t cut it. I’ve just discovered mirenesse’s range of lip balm/lip stick and i’ve found that they don’t dry out my lips so much. Might be worth a look into

Use an oil to remove your lip products. Gentler and leaves them feeling soft and hydrated. Bite Lip Agave Mask is also awesome.

I have super dry skin, including my lips. NYX lip primer has become my goto. It makes my lips more hydrated, I can even wear matte lipstick and as bonus it increases wear time even on a gloss or liquid lipstick.

I would recommend using a lip primer I alternate between ELF Lip Lock and the Milani Anti-feathering lip primer – these products help adhere the lip colour to your lips so you can then apply balm over the top without losing the colour straight away. Using a lip scrub is also ideal to remove dry skin.

I use Avon’s lip plumping lip conditioner under my lipstick, it helps keep lips moisturised and lipstick stays on longer when I use this.
