Leg waxing problems

I’ve been waxing my legs myself for years with Veet Easy Wax Roll On, with no issues. Lately though I find I have to wax again after 1-2 weeks because the hair has regrown. It’s like the hairs are just breaking off instead of being pulled out because the new growth has thick blunt ends. I’m also getting a lot of ingrowns as well.
Am I doing something wrong? I really can’t afford to go to a salon to see if it makes a difference. Should I try a different wax? Or just go back to shaving?
It’s really frustrating me, especially as I’m pretty much stuck wearing long pants and skirts for all but maybe two days of a fortnight due to the ingrown bumps and hairy regrowth.

I had a brainwave! I epilated last night & I’ve got a trick I always do. It’s such a part of epilating, that I didn’t even think of it when I made my previous post. Make sure your legs are warm! I epilate within a few minutes of showering, but after a few minutes my legs cool down. I rub them down with a hot, wet washer, then make sure I dry them thoroughly, giving a good rub as I do. The heat helps the hairs come out smoothly, plus the more you rub, the more it gets your circulation going, which for some reasons minimises the pain. After a few minutes, I stop & rewet the washer & do the next area I’m about to epilate. In winter I get a lot of snapping, so I have to stop to use the hot washer more often.

If you’ve been waxing for a while, your leg hairs are probably weaker & snap more easily. I’d try stopping every now & again to give a hot rub then restart. Good luck.

    HI Alishe ,
with your waxing it sounds like you re breaking the hairs off ..
the way to get a good leg wax is to exfoliate the night prior to waxing and not apply and moisturiser . then when you wax apply a thin layer of the wax from the roller in the direction of the hair . place the wax strip on and in a fast motion and in the opposite direction to the application pull the strip along the leg at about half inch away form the leg . this is best done in small sections at a time .. use a soothing lotion after . and remember to exfoliate once a week after that and moisturise daily. good luck

    Hi Alishes,

Shaving is a good option when starting a new relationship because then you have the option of quickly removing any hair right before a date and you don’t have to wait for it to grow back!

My boyfriend just hates it when they’re spiky so I either have to have them smooth and silky or long and hairy so they’re a bit fluffy and softer for him HAHAAA.

My favourite razor of all time is the Schick Hydrosilk, it’s really gentle and does such a close shave!’

    Goodluck with everything. xx

Every hair on your leg/body/head has its own regrowth cycle! Just think about it, all the hair on your head doesn’t fall off at once, does it? Same with eyelashes & brows. One hair falls out, then regrows. Some hairs are dormant, some hairs are growing & some hairs are shedding at any given moment. If you wax or epilate, all the hairs in the growing cycle are all removed at the same time, yet you always get a few odd hairs a few days later. These are the hairs that were just below the surface when you waxed/epilated.

I use Cetaphil when I shave. Whatever you use, make sure it’s got no perfume or fragrance in the list of ingredients.

Exfoliation is super important when it comes to preventing ingrown hairs in the first place. Either use a scrub or loofah (or both!)

Good luck with the guy, but he will realise at some stage that you’ve got body hair.

    Hey Alishes!

I’m a serial epilator user and I have this happen to me sometimes. My suggestion might be a tough one for you in summer, but I suggest you exfoliate all those ingrown out as much as possible, and grow your hair out.

My theory is your hair has softened and thinned out from regular waxing and you might need to have a break. By doing this and getting as much hair grown out as possible, you will then be able to get your hair back on the same regrowth cycle once you have your hair back at a better length.

I find if I epilate when they are too short, my hairs can break.

Do you think your hairs have a different regrowth cycle or am I completely off-track?

    TUD x
