Keratosis Pilaris (red bumpy spots on arms)

Hi All

I’m really embarrassed about my upper arms as since I was a teenager I’ve had itchy, red bumps which sometimes resemble pimples with an ingrown hair inside. My GP has diagnosed them as Keratosis Pilaris but the cream he gave me makes no difference. Does anyone else have this condition and does anything work?

Thanks! OG xx

I’ve found the physical exfoliation/moisturising routine doesn’t really make any significant difference for me. I recently had a friend recommend Lanate Body Topical Cream as a holy grail product. I just purchased some (Chemist Warehouse) to give it a try, wish me luck!

Exfoliating with a glove in the shower (2 pack for under $5 at kmart) and liberal use of Redwin Sorbelene ($6 for a massive bottle) has pretty much gotten rid of it on my arms and helped my legs a fair amount. Also great for others who are also on a budget!

I have been using high % AHA product for exfoliation. Sounds like moogoo products is a must try for this condition. I will sure go have a look at my local chemist.

nice oil massage followd by gentle exfoliation in the shower followed by glycolic acid based lotion and a moisturiser if skin still feels dry.

Skintrition EFAs take 6 a day and I can promise you they will go away!

You can get an aqueous ointment with 5% salicylic acid and apply 1-2 times a day.

Just check with you GP first you can use salicylic acid as some skin can be sensitive to it and if you are taking certain medications as some chemists do ask, and look for a compund chemist as some don’t do mix ups or make drugs but some do!

This was recommended to me by my dermatologist and I have had great results. I have had it for around 10 years now and this is the only thing that helps. Dermatologist did say it gets better with age.

I can also vouch for moogoo in general they make magic in bottles/tubes!!

My boyfriend has this but he doesnt care or want to do anything about it! I noticed it isnt as obvious in summer when we are getting more sun and going to the beach.

Personally, I have a KP and exfoliating aggravates it. This article was a game changer for me, please take the time to read it if you are looking for a way to take the bumps away!

The moisturizer I use to make my skin smooth is Palmers anti aging lotion. It has AHAs and BHAs in it which is what works to get the bumps to disappear. The other thing that helps is using a body oil, currently I am using Thursday Plantation bio perfecting Nurture oil (thanks to beauty heaven, I got it in my mini beautorium prize pack)

Seriously I had tried everything before this combo and nothing ever worked for me, the bumps always remained and I would have people ask what was wrong with my arms because they were so bad. Now my skin is smooth and soft – not perfect and I have to keep up my routine but the bumps are barely noticeable now. Complete turnaround for me!
