Is there any way to stop my skin producing so much oil?

Fortunately for me, my cystic acne is finally under control and my skin looks good at last. However, if there was a lucrative market for sebum I would be a millionaire. I need to blot several times a day and it is getting ridiculous.

I use a super gentle regime, because any exfoliating ups oil production for me. Neutrogena extra gentle cleanser, Simple soothing facial toner, once a week I swap Thi our for a 2% BHA toner from Paula’s Choice) then either Cetphil Suntivity lotion or Ego Sunsence Daily Face, then makeup. I use Estée Lauder mattifying primer if I feel like it, but it does very little. Then EL Doublewear.

Night time: same cleanser and toner, Retin-A and Cetphil Moisturiser.

Any tips or products you have found tht help actually control the oil without stripping the skin would be most welcome!

You have a good regimen going on.

I too use Retin A, PC’s 2% BHA in gel form, Ego sunsense… But I add Biore spf50+ Pa++++ sunblock( it is a sunblock that acts as primer), it helps keep the oils at bay.

If you love the cetphil moisturiser you will love the face wash even more!!! it washes your face but still leaves moisture in your skin so it doesnt strip it down at all. IT IS AMAZINGGGG.

If you are wearing make up and you are getting oily you are probably wearing the wrong type of things for your skin babe. I made a video with the products I use that prevent me from getting oily through out the day. I hope I helped 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_-f485vgUM&list=TLRopVGqBG1lA

Have you tried washing your face with lukewarm tea?

Yes, apart from a active skin care routine, I find that the makeup you use highly important in impacting on how oil and break outs you get. I was very oily in my T Zone and cheek area (we’re talking blotting every half hour!) then I started using the Mineral Primer Powder by Mineral Obsession before applying my mineral foundation powder then setting it with the mineral veil and now I only blot 2 -3 times a day. Now my makeup is still looking smooth and fresh on my skin when I get home from work.

this is what they say about it.

“Mineral Obsession’s Mineral Primer is an absolute necessity in your busy schedule. It helps to set the scene to create a base for long lasting mineral foundation. Primer also helps smooth out fine lines and pores to help create a flawless finish.

Our primer powder will not irritate skin and is gentle for everyday use. Helps to absorb any excess oil throughout the day.

An oil free powder part of our natural organic makeup range, it is a must have in your makeup range

I don’t really know much about this, but I’ll give you a natural remedy I use.
    – Plain yoghurt as a face mask for 15-30 minutes to brighten and soften the skin.
    – 1 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar and 1 tablespoon water as a natural toner to help brighten, soften and smooth the skin. The water lowers the acidity of the vinegar and to make it “friendly” to the skin.
I have extremely sensitive skin, and it works for me, so don’t be frightened. Hope it helps you =)

I use primer under makeup and facial powder over makeup and this keeps my face oil free for 8-10 hours. I use MAC for both the primer and powder compact.

Anything with Salicylic acid will slow the production of oil.

It doesn’t seem like it’s the skin care regime that’s the problem.

Are you using a powder after your liquid foundation? If your not that’s the problem.
Either drop your liquid foundation all together and go for a mineral powder such as Bella Pierre. (excellent coverage) or make sure you are using a powder after your liquid.
If your still experiencing problems after that, use a setting spray or hairspray until you buy one.

I don’t recommend Neutrogena, even if it’s extra gentle, it can still excessively strip away skin oils. If you’re already using a Cetaphil moisturiser, you could use the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser.

I work in pharmacy, and a product I recommend to customers taking or using acne medications is Papulex. Papulex is skincare range formulated for acne-prone skin. It’s a two-step regime. Cleanse with a soap-free gel twice a day, then follow with the moisturiser (the oil-free cream would be suitable for you). Papulex is gentle enough to be used with potentially drying acne treatments (such as Retin-A).

I can’t recommend the use of a toner; however, I do recommend that you moisturise your face immediately after washing it to lock in the moisture.

Another thing you might want to consider: the water temperature you use in a shower or when washing your face. Keep it lukewarm, not hot! A lot of people use hot showers/water to wash their face, and it dries out the skin too much; once again the skin then balances dryness with increasing oil production.
