I THINK I GOT ROBBED — KOREAN HAUL

I’ve been trying to order my first Korean beauty haul today and needless to say I DID NOT HAVE A GREAT EXPERIENCE. I tried Sokoglam and Peach Lily, but both declined my card. I went to Etude House and got some stuff which totalled $33.70 including shipping. Now I had $67.10 in my account this morning, but when I went to check my balance, I ONLY HAD $17.10! Can someone please tell me what the heck went on?! cries an ocean Or did I calculate something wrong? I failed maths in school =/

I’ve attached a screenshot to show you what I meant by my card being declined.

After this, I honestly will never go near Sokoglam or Peach and Lily again until I make sure they were not involved negatively. Btw, Sokoglam has unreasonable shipping fees. At least P&L give you points which can be redeemed for deductions.

Also, sorry if this seemed like a typical drama episode.

Thank you everyone for all the replies and help! I’ve solved the problem and it’s all good now. God, I was so scared and my mum said I won’t buy online again but now she just doesn’t know, LOL.

If you paid by credit card you can get the payments recalled if you contact your credit card provider.

For all the Korean experts, has anyone heard of a snail face mask that uses snail secretion filtrates as an ingredient . I posted it on another thread as well ? thanks

I buy all my Korean beauty products through Amazon, typically at a shop called JOLSE. They charge the same amount for their products as you’d pay if you were living in Korea (I used to live in Korea, so I know how much beauty typically costs there), and they send along all the little free samples you’d get with your products when you purchase them in store. Shipping is prompt, prices are in AUD, and they have a variety of brands available. They are excellent.

Ooh wait I think maybe I get what you mean, the declined transactions have maybe not retuned the funds to your account yet? Is that what you mean? At times it can take up to 72 hours for funds to appear back to your account. Or the Etude House purchase added postage and currency conversion to usd then bank fee to process a foreign currency?

Just moved house today and Internet not up and running yet but felt compelled to drop in on this thread. It’s a little unclear as on my phone so I can’t accurately see the screen shot you put up.

Both those sites are expensive (well above RRP compared to other sellers) but you don’t need to hear that you know it now sorry :(. and they work in US$ which means higher conversion for you and then on top there is shipping and bank charges for processing a foreign currency. I’m probably wrong but it looks like you paid separately for multiple orders from same seller?

If I were you I’d contact the sellers and get them to cancel transaction if they don’t reply in 24 hours get your bank to. As I’m on my phone I don’t have access to my links but if you pop onto the Korean thread there is a link to trusted sellers. As others have helpfully suggested iherb can be good as it comes in Aud so no conversion. You can also try sites like Jolse as their postage is free or eBay as you know what you are getting.

Did you go to the Etude House global website (http://www.etudehouse.com) to buy your goods?

Because I just checked and their amounts are quoted in US dollars. If the amount you purchased totalled US$33.70, that is ~AUD$44.68.

Are you absolutely sure that total included shipping or was shipping an additional fee? If it was an additional fee, that makes more sense and your balance of $17.10 sounds about right.

I recommend in the future (and don’t worry, we’ve all done something like this too!), you do not buy direct from Korean brand sites directly. I highly recommend you try something like iHerb’s curated Korean range: http://au.iherb.com/k-beauty I have purchased from them quite frequently and the prices are reasonable. They have a few Etude House items. The best bit: the prices are all Aussie dollars!

Oh hang I think I misread your first comment. Do you mean you had $67 after Etude house had taken their money ?

If that is the case then I don’t know what happened. 🙁

I know my credit card can take a day or two for the money to actually leave once I have made payment

Ok so if you bought something for $33 IN USD then that would come to around $45 AUD.

That’s assuming the place you purchased from charged in USD not Australian dollars?
