I need a moisturising lip balm!

I’m searching for a lib balm or treatment that I can apply daily to properly moisturise my lips. I am currently using Baby lips by Maybelline but I feel as though it doesn’t really moisturise my lips, and perhaps makes them drier…
I rarely like to splurge on products so I would like the product to be cheap as I use lip balms many times every day.
What are your suggestions?

Hi claudiajones I too definitely recommend lanolips (not just the 101 balm but either banana balm or lemonaid – check out the reviews on this site just type in lanolips) it really works for my lips even when they are very chapped and is worth the $10-$15 price tag (try and get it on sale) I never used to spend that much on balms either, but I also never found results as good as these products and its worth buying one of these over 3 useless balms!

Another slightly more expensive, but excellent and my 100% favorite is nuxe reve de miel it is simply amazing and has changed my lips entirely, I put it on at night and occasionally during the day and nothing quite works as well as this for me!

Honestly for anything a bit cheaper ($5-$10) I had some decent results with yes to carrots balms (particularly the fig one in a purple tube) and moo goo lip balms but still nothing as good as the other 2. Another recent cheap fave is nivea that comes in a tin, I have the caramel? flavour one and it instantly plumps and moisturises my lips, actually I do highly recommend that one as an instant fix!

Also, I’ve tried 2 of burts bees (mango and not sure on the other one) and didn’t really like them. I have also never been a fan of the paw paw, just didn’t hydrate my lips like everyone around me seemed to be raving about. Blistex and carmex seemed great if I continually applied them but my lips would split/crack if I missed a day and chapstick are somewhat similar, plus I dont like the taste. Sorry for the essay, but I am quite passionate about lip balms. I hope it helped!

I’ve been using Nivea chapstick since I was about 6 years old and it has always worked well for me…however, my mum buys Paula’s Choice lip balm off line (that’s the only place you can get it) and it is AMAZING! And when I say amazing, I mean really AMAZING! It’s a bi pricy for a lip balm, but DEFINITELY worth your money.

Blistex all the way for me. The tin, the tube, the stick – all of it. It’s amazing. I’ve been converted ever since I read an article where Naomi Campbell said she uses it. That and Palmer’s Cocoa butter lotion 🙂 Two very inexpensive products that give incredible results. I figure if it’s good enough for her it’s good enough for me!

if you’re looking for something like maybelline babylips but isn’t…

i’ve been getting pretty decent results from the nivea fruity shine range as well as the rimmel keep calm lip balm range…

Okay. I’ll put this out there for petrolatum products. I had to use the good ol Vas when I did a float tank (yes, I did the super salty tank and floated; very interesting experience). They recommend putting Vaseline on any cuts or abrasions you may have on your skin so the salt literally doesn’t get into the wounds.

I’m telling you, that definitely works.

So, if you want to seal your skin from anything, then Vaseline and other petrolatum products do work. As to their long-term health benefits and efficacy, I can’t tell you. I personally am not a fan. The only petroleum-based products I go out of my way to buy are Vicks Vaporub and then I did buy Bio Oil a very long time ago (there is now a petrolatum-free version by another company).

Just throwing this in there to show that I’m not a complete hypocrite!

For me, you can’t beat the Lanolips 101 Ointment. Sure, it’s pricey but that stuff keeps my prone-to-chapped lips nice & moisturised. I used to use the Carmex pot on the regular, but I’ve found that stuff just doesn’t do it for me anymore. I’ve still got a pot in one of my handbags & using it yesterday reminded me of why I’ve made the switch.

If you’re balking at the pricetag of Lanolips, then I can recommend Natralus PawPaw Ointment. It’s free from petroleum for anyone looking to avoid that stuff (which is also in Carmex, funnily enough).

I just can’t do a petroleum product for multiple applications. I know this is a bit hypocritical considering most lip products on the market have petroleum-based ingredients however if it’s a balm, it has to be nearly 100% natural for me (the fraction being the preservative).
