Help & Tips with False Lash Application?

Hey everyone! I finally treated myself to a pair of false lashes to try for the first time. I tried putting them on for the first time yesterday and it was a massive failure! I had to re-try three times which ruined my eyeliner and I don’t think I had them on very well in the end. The inner corners were lifting. I feel very stupid after the failed application but I liked the look so I’m hoping to master this and buy some more, nicer pairs down the track.

Does anyone have any tips to help me get the hang of it? Or is this something that I’ll have to continue trying and failing until I get the hang of it/find my easiest method?

Thanks in advance ladies!

If you’ve bought a set of “full strip” lashes (not individuals) these are the best for beginners!

One thing my make-up clients always seem to have difficulty with is the lashes lifting, and this is most of the time due to the quality of the glue. If your lashes came with a little thing of glue, don’t bother with it, and go get yourself a tube of quality glue: my fav’s are DUO and Ardell – the best place to find these are at a drugstore/pharmacy, and will last you an extremely long time! Try find the dark coloured glue, but if you can only find the clear glue that’s fine.

    To apply:
1 – measure the lashes to the length of your eye, and trim off the excess from the OUTER end of the lashes (false lashes are purposely made long, so they can be used by all different eye shapes, and you want to cut from the outer side, for the most natural look).

2: With a q-tip/cotton bud, squeeze a small amount of glue on one end, and run that over the edge of the strip on the lashes, then lightly dab again on both corners.

3: Give the glue about 20-30 seconds to get tacky, and whilst your waiting, bend the strip back and forth (in a U shape) to make it more flexible and easier to work with.

4: You want to get the lashes as close to your lash line as possible, the easiest way to do this is using a pair of tweezers and your thumb and pointer of the hand, opposite to the eye you’re applying to.

5: Use the tweezes for the outer side of the lashes, and your fingers for the inner side. Place the outer side on the outer edge of your eye first, and slowly lay it along the lash line, working your way in.

6: Once you get to the inner eye, it’ll be hard to see what you’re doing with your fingers in the way, so use the tweezers to get in there nice and close. Remember, because the glue it tacky, you can move the lashes around if you haven’t got them exactly in place.

7: Do the same with the other eye, and once the glue is completely dry, conceal it with your eyeliner (best with gel or liquid).

    *Tips
    – Instead of applying eyeliner first, just do a light line of pencil/khol liner to help see where to place the lashes, then do your eyeliner once the glue has dried – conceals the glue, and you’ll know where to place your liner perfectly with the aid of the pencil line – 2 birds, one stone.

    • Curl your lashes before you apply the falsies, but apply mascara AFTER you have applied your lashes – this will help blend your real lashes into your falsies, creating a more natural look.

    • When applying the lashes, if you find that your lashes aren’t as close to your lash line as you’d like, and you don’t want to fiddle with the tweezers, try and press the strip closer to your lashes with an eye-lash curler, just be careful not to curl the falsies!

Sorry for the essay, but I hope this helps!

Shaanxo has a really good video on applying lashes, so definitely check out her youtube video. Otherwise, just make sure you cut them to the right size first and then try and shape the lash more by wiggling the band a bit so it will fit to the shape of your eye/eyelid, and then make sure you wait for the glue to get tacky before putting them on. Tweezers in my opinion definitely help putting them on in the right place so line them up with your lash line and then once they are in place get your fingers and squeeze your lashes and the false lashes together so they bind properly and don’t look separate. Then just adjust to wait you need/what suits you best 🙂

    Hope that helps xxx

Wow, thanks! I definitely am going for more dramatic looks so I’ll have to look into that brand. I’m feeling a lot more confident in trying them again 🙂

    Hi Kimicat!
After years of being on and off obsessed with false lashes I may be of some assistance
First off, I’ve found some lashes tend to hold their shape better than others. The thinner lash bands never seem to sit well with my eyelids, but it could just be my eye shape.
After trying pretty much every set on the market I swear by 1000hour! I’m not sure if its the look you’re going for, but the dramatic lashes they have are always the first ones I run to. The glue they come with is fantastic and thats coming from someone who doesn’t abide by the 30second drying rule
Always trim the lashes to size, making sure they’re not too long as the thicker bands can be quite uncomfortable.
Apply a generous (not too generous) amount of glue on either end and a slick layer on the rest. Attach the middle first, then the tips. If you find they’re not quite on your lash line, pinch them until they are (best done straight away)
Only apply mascara from the root to middle-ish of your lashes.
    And voilà!
Always tends to do the trick for me, although it definitely does take practice.
Good luck and hope I helped a little 🙂

Thanks guys. That exactly how I was duality lol! I’ve been watching youtube videos and I think I’ll need to be more patient with the glue. Otherwise it seems likeI just need to get more comfortable with doing it…

The glue will need to set on the false lashes for at least 30 seconds! I find they stick much better once doing this, try applying with tweezers also, hope this helps Hun x
