Help me! Makeup brush beginner.

Hey everyone,
So I’ve always applied my makeup with my hands but as I’m getting into it more now I’m older I thought I’d try and use brushes.
I use maybelline dream mousse foundation which isn’t a liquid and has a creamy/mousse texture. Can I still use a foundation brush for application?
Also if anyone could recommend a cheap brush set I could start out with to play and learn I’d really appreciate it. There’s some ridiculously cheap sets on eBay from HK but they’re so cheap I’m worried if I begin with them I’ll never get it right :S can anyone attest to their quality?
Thanks xx

I went down this same path last year. I didn’t want to spend a fortune so I got a few sigma brushes to begin with and have been happy with the quality so far. I like their duo fibre brushes. I then have got some real techniques and they are thebomb.com. Depending on the foundation i use I go between a flat stippling brush or their expert face brush. For eyeshadow I use the common mac 217 but I bought a new one the other day and the bristle feel different and not as soft 🙁 and I don’t use it I just use my old one (I bought two so I could blend different colours with a clean brush).
If money wasn’t an issue I would buy the Rae Morris magnetic brush set *swoon*

I would LOVE the Rae Morris brushes too Abbey. They’re on my “wish list”.

The Real Techniques Brushes are the best quality and quite affordable!

Real techniques is amazing but even on iherb for a set they are still not what some people would consider ‘cheap’. A great option which is a bit cheaper but better quality than the manicare brushes are the ecotools brushes. Off ebay you can buy an entire set for a super cheap price!

I have never used a mouse foundation before, are they better than the other types on offer? I am getting older so I am wondering if I should move to the other foundation.

I don’t think any foundation is technically better than the other types, because it’s all based on your skin type. What type of skin do you have? Do you currently use a foundation?

I have been using foundation for many years and would not leave the house without my “face” on, was not aware of the fact that mouse foundation was available. Currently using Mirenese foundation. Luckily I have what you would call normal skin. No real lines to speak of but do like a good coverage. If you have used both what would work best? Thanks for helping, sometimes it’s time for a change but everything these days is so expensive I would want to know that it would suit me before spending money to find out that it’s not for me.

You can get mousse foundation pretty cheap these days especially the Maybelline Dream Mousse, and they all usually have testers available for you to test on your skin. Mousse seems to be best for oily skin, because its matte, and not so good for dry skin. So if you have normal skin, you shouldn’t have trouble with it.

I’d go and test it out at priceline or somewhere like that. Everyone’s face and skin are different.

I agree with so many of the other beauties, the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush would be perfect with your mousse foundation and it such a good brush. I don’t know anyone that uses this brush that doesn’t love it!
