I’m struggling with the same issue and am planning to see my GPA. I suspect that it could be a symptom of under-active thyroid as I have other health concerns which match up. Hope you get some answers!

Dear SarahKate.theGreat (Love your name!!) Hope you have seen or will be seeing your GP soon. It is really nothing to lose sleep over as I have been using the thyroid pills for years now and it really is just a matter of taking one pill a day (the only down side is you have to take it early in the morning as you cannot have food till an hour later) and also keep them in the fridge. Other than that its great I dont have symptoms any longer and my GP keeps an eye on my thyroid count each year. So anyone who thinks they have this issue just ask your GP for a simple blood test and find out. Best of luck

Go To Your GP now!!! I had this problem and found that it was my thyroid under acting which can be very dangerous. They did a blood test and found that I had a very low count, this can happen to people of all ages it is not just older people. I take a pill every day and have my levels checked once a year and I am now fine….still have a little hair loss but nothing major now. So please even if its not your thyroid it could still be something that needs attention. I do hope its not and it can be fixed by your hairdresser but honestly its not worth the risk, just for a simple blood test. All the very best of luck I will be thinking of you…Prettyme.

Definitely mention it to your doctor, it could be a symptom of a serious condition!

You should try and not wash your hair too much, and never comb it when wet, try using a gentler wide tooth comb over a regular brush, don’t tie it up as much as possible and dont roughly towel dry it, avoid blow driers, straighteners and curlers.
This is what my mum did when she was losing her hair due to chemo. Eventually it got so bad she had to cut it short but hopefully it wont come to that for you. #1 piece of advice is to be extremely gentle!

I concur with one of the earlier posters about going to the doctor first and checking if there is a medical reason eg vitamin/iron deficiency that is causing hair loss.

Let the GP know what your main concern is and when it started. He/she should do a full set of basic blood tests such as:
    – iron studies (very low iron can cause hair loss)
    – thyroid function test (changes in thyroid hormone levels can also cause hair loss)
    – full blood count (see if you have low blood cell amounts – anaemia can also cause hair loss)
    – testosterone levels (androgen excess can cause hair loss)

After checking all of those things, if there are no abnormalities you could consider using Regaine Hair Loss treatment for women – obviously consult with your GP about all of the risks/benefits etc. It is medically approved and will regrow some hair in most people. I’m a medical student so I’m coming from the health angle here.

    Good luck!

If it is really excessive you should go to your GP and get blood tests done to check underlying causes, esp. your iron levels.

Stress can cause hair loss so it could be a lifestyle issue. It can take a few months for your hair to recover 🙂

Firstly, ask your hairdresser if it is that serious. They will definitely be able to advise. Check any meds you are taking as this may be a contraindication to look out for.

I have long dark hair that seems to look like a lot of hair loss each time I brush my hair but my hair seems to grow fast and its not thinning – just normal hair loss.
