Cleaning Make Up Brushes

Help! I’m trying to be good and clean my foundation brush regularly, but no matter what I do I can’t seem to get all the foundation out and leave it squeaky clean :/ does anyone else have this issue? Ladies what do you do to clean your make up brushes? Do you have a particular cleaner or anything that gets your brushes squeaky clean?

HELP A GAL OUT I just want my brush to be clean 🙁

    Hey lauratough!
I use my make-up brushes pretty heavily with not a lot of cleaning in between, and I have found that the best way to clean it (without breaking the bank) is the shampoo and hand method.
I usually use whatever shampoo that I have currently got in my shower (if I’m using expensive shampoo at that time I’ll wait it out until I’ve got something like herbal essences or garnier in my shower). The plainer, less fragranced the shampoo is the better, but it isn’t the end of the world if you use whatever shampoo you have available.
Then I get a tap running and wet the brush, smush a little bit of the shampoo into the brush and using circle motions on my hand, create a lather with the shampoo and rinse. The first couple of times the lather will come out your foundation or lipstick pigment colour, however soon the lather will become fluffy and white meaning your brush is clean!

    Thank you so much beauties!!!

I have been looking for something that cleaned my brushes properly with damaging the bristles or making them too tough.

How long does it usually take to dry?

depends on the types of brushes and the density as well. I usually try to do mine so they can dry overnight, but some of my denser brushes can take a little longer

Baby wipes are amazing for cleaning everything I use them for my makeup brushes also great for cleaning walls without making them super wet

I use Dr Bonner’s Castile Liquid Soap and I picked up Models Prefer Pore Cleansing Pad from Priceline for $3.29 and use it as a dupe for all those expensive brush cleaning mats that Sigma and RT have come out with. It is small so I can only clean one brush at a time but it took me about 30 minutes to clean as many brushes and they are all super clean.

I’ve recently started using the Real Techniques brush cleaner which smells amazing and does such a good job of cleaning brushes. It’s about $12 on iHerb, little more expensive than your baby shampoo, but works wonders.

Also if you can get your hands on Daiso sponge cleaning your blending sponges will love you forever. I have never found it so easy to clean my sponges. Just massage a little into my sponge and then squeeze a few times under running water and my sponge is clean!!

I heared you can use shampoo and conditioner to clean your brushes. If nothing is working then perhaps you can try dying your brushes with colour.

This might sound a little weird, but I use a mild dish-washing detergent. Those things are made to cut through all types of stuff, they’re easily available and cheap, and they (can) smell really good too. It works really well for foundation, even if they’re oil free!. It’s always worked wonders for my brushes and they haven’t deteriorated at all from it. Hopefully that helps someone out there who doesn’t have money for expensive cleaners 🙂
