Chlorine made my hair turn green?!

I’ve got ombred hair, and the lightest shade it gets is a platinum blonde colour at the ends of my hair. I went swimming in a chlorinated pool today and when I got out, the ends of my hair had turned bright green, which wasn’t a pretty look at all.

I went home and washed my hair, shampooing twice (once with my purple toning shampoo and once with my regular hydrating shampoo). I also conditioned and put a mask in it for half an hour.

The end result is that the ends of my hair has lightened to a weird bluey/green tinge that’s a lot better looking than the bright green colour I initially had, but it’s not exactly ideal either.

Does anyone know how to fix this without having to buy any additional products? Or will it just fade back to it’s normal colour over time?

Hi! I used to swim competitively and train 4 times a week, so my hair would get pretty ruined by the chlorine. I definitely recommend wetting your hair before going in and also a swimming cap is a good idea (but if you’re not in a place where it feels socially acceptable to wear a cap, that can be a pain…) I really like the Solar Fix, Fix It Leave In Moisturiser for applying before and after swimming. It’s really good and also has sunscreen protection to stop your hair being damaged if you’re in the sun too. Hope this helps x

It will eventually wash out, but keep using the toning shampoo or a deep cleansing shampoo to make it a bit quicker. Bleached hair really sucks up colour!

Next time: before you’re going to go swimming, get some extra moisture by doing a hair mask; & before you get in the pool, wet your hair under a tap so it absorbs less chlorine when you get in the pool.

If you don’t want to look ridiculous, maybe you should grab one of these stylish numbers, lol.
