Brow Shaping

(First of all, apologies if I’ve posted this in the wrong section!)

I’ve never had my brows professionally shaped, and I think I’ve now come to a point I need a bit of guidance.

In Melbourne, are there any recommendations for you guys? I’ve had a look on the www, and mostly I’ve been left overwhelmed!

I’m just wanting someone who is going to give me a consultation and then do the shaping for me (so then I can just maintain it myself).

Also, any thoughts on if you think brows should be trimmed with scissors? A couple of places advise against it, others are for it (thus added to my feelings of being overwhelmed).

Thanking you in advance for any suggestions. 🙂

Thank you all for your input thus far, it is appreciated. 🙂

TUD, I looked up Zukreat and I liked her video! I’m still confused as she mentions she cuts her brows, and others strongly advise against it. I think I’ve also got the type of unruly brows where snipping them will only make them worse.

I’m just concerned (like everyone else I imagine) I’m going to go to someone who will massacre them. I’m no longer in my teens where bad brow episodes can likely grow back.

TUD always sweeps in with my suggestions before I can make them shakes fist I think she is my secret beauty twin.

I just went to benefit brow bar at Myer for the first time last month and I was super impressed! Every beautician I’ve ever gone to over the last 12 years of getting waxed has kind of just eyeballed it which has had mixed results! At Benefit they do personalise it but they also work to a formula. Several times she used a pencil to make sure that my arch and beginning and end of my brows lined up where they were supposed to. She showed me which particular hairs she was trying to let grow in because I had accidentally shortened one brow… so thorough!

They then ask you some questions about your makeup style and fill them in for you. Unfortunately this is what got me addicted to Gimme Brow! I’m quite a dark brunette and I thought my stylist was crazy reaching for the blonde shade… but no the woman knew her stuff! As my stylist said, when you’re waxing 4 women an hour for an 8 hour shift you get to know what works and what doesn’t.

Hi Riffraff, I’m not in Melbourne unfortunately but I can definitely recommend getting your brows professionally shaped. I finally did this year after years of doing it myself or just getting them waxed at any old waxing place and it changed my eyebrows completely and for the better. I would go to a place that really focuses on brows and has an online presence so you can check out their facebook and instagram and hopefully see some of their work. Yelp is a good place to look for reviews as well, as well as facebook pages. Good luck with your brows 🙂

If all else fails, see where your closest Benefit Brow Bar is and see if you can go in for at least a consultation or a chat. I’ve gone there once (in San Fran) when I needed to get my brows done and I was low on time. They did a fantastic job, just the way I like them. You of course have to pay to get your brows done there but if you get them done once, and have a before / after photo taken, that will be a good starting point.

I have no qualms whatsoever in getting my brows trimmed if they are looking a little bananas but then you can always brush them into shape if you’re tentative. Ultimately you need to go with what you are comfortable with. However the ladies at the brow bar are very well trained!

I’ve also found the Anastasia kit to be great too, however again, I would chat to someone first!

    TUD x
