At home microdermabrashion

I am still on the long battle of trying to get rid of my post acne pigmentation. Currently using a brightening treatment and vitamin c cream but no such results yet.

I was thinking about going to get microdermabrashion done at my local salon but before i do i wanted to know if anyone has had any success with at home products or machines.

Can anyone recommend any products /kits/machines that give the same or similar results?

Avon microclinical exfoliant is a gentle exfoliating scrub which contains similar ingredients to a salon microdermabrasion. I have used it for years with no problems. A tube costs about $35 but they are often on special.

I’ve had microdermabrasion professionally and it really can be hit or miss depending on who your therapist is. I had one therapist who was amazing, then of course she left the salon and I’ve never been able to find her again. Everyone else I’ve seen since has never been as good! I’ve also tried the PMD and it’s okay (heaps cheaper than going to the salon regularly), but it’s not the same as getting a professional to do the job. Keep in mind, it’s not a diamond head microdermabrasion kit. I think Mecca Cosmetica sells them now.

I can highly recommend SKINN’s dermappeal. SKINN is available from TVSN (tvsn.com.au) and the dermappeal microdermabrasion is one of the holy grail products of the range. You need to follow the instructions but it is easy and the results are impressive. I can be a little sensitive and this product has caused no irritation. I am onto my second jar. I believe SKINN will be offering it in a tube as well. Link to SKINN’s site:

That looks good, not too expensive either!

While it isn’t microdermabrasion, I’ve been using Perfect Image TCA 15% skin peel and have had great results with reduced dark spots, pigmentation and scarring. It’s a pretty powerful at home chemical peel, so if you are sensitive it might not be right for you.

I’ve been using PMD machine (Pro version) for about a year now and I really like the results. I’ve never microdermabrasion it done at the salon so can’t really compare the results but I did notice that it reduced pigmentation (but it wasn’t my main concern to start off with) and also made the skin really smooth and refreshed.
I’m also having less breakouts which is great, although I am sure it’s a result of my skincare routine in general, not only this one device.

At first I didn’t like it because my skin didn’t react well to the first treatment and it took over a week to recover, but now I am used to using it and only see the benefits.

PMD is quite expensive and I am not sure if you can get it in Australia (I ordered mine from US), but they have specials every now and then and also promote their products through Youtube heavily, so if you ever decide to invest in it and want to save some money, try searching for videos with reviews because a lot of them will include discount codes.
    Hope that helps.

I have been using a microdermabrasion kit from nutrimetics and it works really well, it came paired with a 50+ SPF moistuiser as well. I find that it works well and my skin feels a lot cleaner after using it. I have never used an at home machine but I have had it professionally done as well. You definitely get a more thorough job done. My friend is getting 6 treatments to get rid of her acne scars, I don’t know if they would reduce if it was done at home though.

    thank you, that helps!

I’ve used a few at home products for fading and have also tried the body shop’s vitamin c microdermabrasion product. Whatever I’ve tried only worked slightly. I visited a dermatologist in December who recommended laser to remove the pigmentation.
