In addition to the above, I wanted to look nice in my hospital pic’s so took some mineral face powder, mascara and lip gloss. Just made me look a little more refreshed in my photo’s with my newborn. Also, I washed and straightened my hair before going in so I didn’t have to do my hair for the first couple days. You may not get that chance though. Take some dry shampoo too. Wishing you all the best!! x

Thank you Vandab, Hoping i will get chance to wash my hair before hand but i will definitely pack some dry shampoo, do you have a brand that you recommend as i haven`t actually used it before?

Take your hair dryer. This will sound weird, however if you require stitches, it will come in handy to make sure things are 100% dry down there.

If you have time in the coming few weeks and feel up to it, go and get your hair trimmed etc. Maybe have your eyebrows waxed & tinted. It could be a while after the baby arrives before you can do those sort of things.

You won’t need a lot of beauty items in hospital as you will be too busy feeding bub, changing bub, gazing at bub and trying to catch up on sleep. Take some shampoo/conditioner, lip balm, deodorant, toothbrush/toothpaste, brush & hair ties/head bands. Then there’s the obvious, lots of maternity pads and nursing pads.

You may not want to stay in your pj’s all day, especially around visitors, so perhaps take some comfy clothing.

Also I would suggest if you have one, take a triangle pillow or nursing pillow with you if you plan to breast feed.

As a side note, if you are planning a natural birth, make sure you have a cardigan or something warm to put on in your labour bag. I remember when I was in labour with each of my children, once that transition stage hit, I was so cold.

Good luck and enjoy your new baby when he/she arrives. Such an exciting time!!

Thanks for your response a friend of mine actually suggested a hair dryer i thought she was mad at first but i guess it makes perfect sense really ! I will definitely remember a cardigan i wouldn`t have even considered it but i do tend to get cold easily <3

I packed a full skincare routine!
Cleanser, hydrating mist, serum – I picked somethings hydrating and a good moisturiser (non SPF so I used it am and pm) Also a micellar water to take make-up off. deodorant!
Just think about what you use on a daily basis.

I never washed my hair in hospital, i didnt find the shower pressure great ( I have thick hair) plus when my waters broke, I called my OBs, as I wasn’t having contractions he advised me he had no issues with me staying at home if I wanted, and we checked in every 2 hours or so.
I had a shower and washed and blow dried my hair haha

Definitely a lip balm too, I asked for mine during labour as my lips got dry! My obs couldn’t stop laughing lol

I wore tinted moisturiser, mascara and some blush during the day to make me feel semi-human.
I also misted my face a bit during the day as all the aircon/heating is quite drying.

I agree with the snacks too, I didn’t eat much the first day but the second day I couldn’t stop!!

Packing a good roll of toilet paper and/or flushable wipes are a life saver, the toilet paper the hospitals gets feels like sandpaper!!

All the best for this exciting time!

    How exciting!!! Congratulations.

If you wash your hair before you go in don’t worry about shampoo and conditioner, unless you will be in for a few days, because after you have had the baby, you probably won’t have the energy to stay in the shower long enough to wash your hair.

Take your body wash that you want to use, maternity pads or pants, if you wear makeup normally and don’t feel comfortable without it on, think about getting your tinting done and even just do a face tan so you don’t have to take any makeup in with you.
If that’s not what you would normally do then just take your moisturiser, deodorant, toothbrush/toothpaste etc.
Food that you want to eat afterwards is a good idea, and if you choose to breastfeed it’s helpful to have some snacky food with you because it’s easy if you do get hungry.
A water bottle and your comfy clothes.

You will do just fine and be sure to let us know how you go xxx

Thanks for your reply Sparkles023 5 weeks to go so trying to be as prepared as humanly possible 🙂

        No problems 🙂
You will be fine. At the end of the day you have just had a baby and that is an amazing achievement. You aren`t expected to be looking like a glamour model.
You will look amazing anyway because you will have a radiance about you that new mothers have.

Enjoy this time (as much as you can) and be sure to have things done the way that you want them done. Not so much a birth plan but just an idea of what you want happening.

Make sure you have plenty of maternity pad or the pull on pants as suggested above are better as you need something soft and comfortable.
I lovely scented body wash and your shampoo and conditioner and i suggest a body spray. As everything ends up smelling like hospital. ( and your bub may bond with your scent) . A brush and hair ties are also the go. And no one expects you to look like a glamour model after you do a wonderful job like bringing a bub into the world.
    Good Luck.

Also. Any music or photos or something to take you to your safe or comfort zone. Something to focus your concentration on.

    • Shampoo and conditioner because that first shower after labour is absolute HEAVEN

    • I used tena underwear instead of maternity pads. I found it absorbs a lot better than maternity pads. Just slice a bit for the ice pack and your nethers will thank you for it

    • You’re not going to get much sleep once the baby comes because of the adrenaline rush and then everyone coming to visit and you just wanting to watch your baby. Eye patches help with puffy sleepless eyes.

    • The air in the hospital can be quite warm and dehydrating. Drink plenty of water. Carry a mist spray or sheet mask.
