When was your last appointment with a Gynaecologist?

I have only been once. It feels like a life time ago, probably because it was when I was 16 and am turning 33 this year! I’m actually a bit nervous but I have had an ongoing issue that needs some attention.

I’m about to have a bowel resection for endometrosis so I’ve seen a lot of Gynos in the last few years. You need to choose carefully. The model of gybological care is money driven unlike other areas. Especially for endo you have to choose very carefully

i have never been. i think you are supposed to go when you first have sex or once you turn 18? I am a 21 year old virgin and i’ve kind of been putting it off until after i have intercourse. I guess maybe i would just like the first person who touches there to be romantic and not just be someone taking swabs.. or whatever they call it lol. Also because i’ve masturbated a fair bit and i don’t know if it shows and i don’t want them to ask if im sexually active and then look…

Twentysomething: If you’ve got a hymen & it’s intact, then you can prove virginity, but lack of a hymen is NOT proof of lost virginity. Not every woman has a hymen. I didn’t have a hymen. I remember my first time being scared, wondering if there’d be pain or blood. In cultures where the marriage sheets are hung to display the virginal blood I would have been wrongly assumed a non-virgin. You’re still a virgin even if no one can tell. When you lose your virginity, go to your usual doctor for a pap smear. If you get any symptoms before then, go to your usual doctor for a referral to a gynaecologist. If you never have kids or symptoms, you could safely go your whole life without seeing a gynaecologist.

Go to your GP! If your GP says you need to see a gynocologist, go see them! My friend just had a massive cancer scare all because she never got around to getting her Pap smear done. It’s not worth avoiding. Just do it. What do you have to lose?

You shouldn’t need to see one unless you have an issue or concern. As stated above they are a specialist. At this stage for you, no one should need to touch you down there unless you have a medical issue. and I don’t think you need to worry about them knowing you’re ‘sexually’ active

Last appointment with my OBGYN (OBstetrics and GYNecology) was 18 years ago, when after being under his care for 6 years through my pregnancies and the birth of my 3 children, I decided no more for me (and hubby was too scared to go through with the ‘snip’!) and he performed the procedure.
I have my pap smears every 2 years (by my GP) but now I’m heading into menopause if I have any problems I’d have no hesitation booking an appointment – although he’s long retired!

BOO for Mr Kassalee! Having your tubes tied(?) is an operation, but for a man, like you said: “Snip!”

You said it *misfortune8*! After he hung on to a referral for over 6 months, I said bugger this, I’ll do it. I’d actually become paranoid about getting pregnant again (back then I was 36 and considered ‘old’) and having had a number of issues with pregnancies, I was more than happy and thankful to have been blessed with 3 healthy children. That’s why females have the babies!

*Kassalee:* old at 36? My sister got a surprise pregnancy at 41! After twelve years of trying for another child, she’d given up. Good for you!

How wonderful for your sister *misfortune8*! It’s amazing how often that happens – women unable to have a child after many years of trying (and often having one by IVF) than miraculously falling pregnant years later! In 1996, being a mum at 36 was thought of as being an older mum, now it’s far more normal. Imagine in my mum’s day, being pregnant at age 37 back in 1978 – my baby brother is 38 tomorrow! That was a surprise pregnancy for my family (a 12 year gap from the then youngest) and I being 16, loved being a big sister! My mum thought she’d finished her family of 5 kids at the age of 25!

I was 29 when I had my first child, my mum already had finished her family of 5 kids by then lol

It’s a good decision to visit your obygen asap.
If it’s a real problem or not at least you will know.
Hoping and praying for good result 🙂
