Thick Knotty Hair

My hair is constantly in knots. I brush it and brush is and within minutes my hair is stuck with more mattes of dead hair.

Any suggestions on what I should do?? Cutting is not an option. I’ve gone 3 times in the past month.

Really good hair repairing products would be good thanks 🙂

when im in the shower i will just use a regular shampoo then for conditioner i will just use a hydrating hair mask and leave it in for about a minute or two and run a comb or my hands through it and try to detangle it. Otherwise i will just cover my whole hair in a hair mask and leave it in for a good hour then hop in the shower and wash it out while detangling it

i have long hair that easily gets itself into knots…my favourite trick is to use a hair mask in place of hair conditioner when i’m showering, and brush it through my hair using a detangling shower comb….

Your clothes might be a problem too. My sister can’t wear tops with a collar without getting a mass of knots at the back.

You could probably use a regular hair mask routine too. I use whatever leave-in conditioner or hair mask I have on hand & apply it the night before I’m going to wash my hair. Sleeping with your hair plaited helps too. It keeps your hair sitting relatively in place so it doesn’t get kinks. These kinks make it knot more easily in the daytime, so preventing these sleep-kinks keeps my hair more manageable than when I don’t plait it. I have to pull out the plait when I get a migraine & boy is my hair knotty after a migraine! It forms a single huge dreadlock! It can take up to an hour to comb out. My tangleze helps. I’m also thinking about buying an ionising hair brush after reading a recent bh article.

If you’re after a good detangling product, then try O&M (Original & Mineral)’s Know Knott Detangler. It’s pretty good stuff & it won’t dry your hair out either. I’ve got fine-but-lots-of-it hair that’s prone to tangles & I have found when I’ve used this on my knots my hair is easier to manage.

If you’re after a repairing shampoo & conditioner, then try bhave’s rescue range. It is pricey (especially if you buy it in a salon), but it is a salon quality range & I found that it really helps/has helped strengthen my hair. Before I started using it my hair was breaking & now it doesn’t. I bought the rescue shampoo & conditioner at the beginning of the year & even now I’m down to about 1/4 of a bottle in each, so it does last…then again I only wash my hair once or twice a week.

Not me but my daughter gets shocking knots. I use a tangle teaser in combination with Revlon’s ‘Uniq one’ coconut spray which I spray in her hair when it’s dry. It makes short work of the knots and leaves her hair silky soft (but not greasy) and smelling lovely!

It’s not really marketed as a detangler (more a leave in conditioning treatment/heat protectant product) but it works well. It was recommended to me by the hairdresser that cuts her hair and you can buy it in salons or online.

Why don’t you get yourself a really good treatment from the hairdressors to soften it, then buy the new knotless brush that are at the stores now. Also I find if I sleep woth my hair straight not curled up , I wake up with flatter hair and less knots
