Silk pillowcases?

This would fall under both hair and skincare – but the internet has been telling me for a while now that sleeping on silk pillowcases helps prevent wrinkles and is better for my hair… I have yet to make the plunge, especially since they’re quite pricey (when looking at real silk).

Do any of you beauties have silk pillowcases? Where did you get them, how is it? Do you recommend it?

I’ve been trying to find a good brand of silk pillowcases and got nothing so far. But now I know what brands to search for. Thanks for your help!

I dont think silk pillowcases help prevent wrinkles, I think the point of them in regards to skin, is it prevents sleep lines, you know when the wrinkled sheet makes an impression upon the skin that can take an hour or so to fade. I don’t know as I dont have a silk pillowcase but I think that is what they mean by “prevent wrinkles”.

My mum always swore by it but I tried sleeping on one for a year and noticed zero difference. I can’t figure out if it depends on the individual or its an old wives tale but by all means try it and you might find that it works wonderfully for you!

I bought a silk sleeping cap when I noticed my hair starting to become more brittle. I won’t go back – there’s a better distribution of oil between scalp and ends, and no more bedhead. It doesn’t snap from being tangled anymore. I never really realized how abrasive a cotton pillowcase can be.

I got one (100% mulberry silk) just because DJ gave me 20 bucks voucher that was about to expire and they had huge sale then on manchester. In slate grey, adore the colour and silver look, but that is it.
In short: makes zero difference to your skin. Healthy eating (appropriate for human metabolism) and good skincare routine do make difference though.

I use silk pillowcases & silk scrunchies for hair. .

I have several silk pillowslips & use one very day. Its so luxurious.
I notice the difference if I am away from home using a regular cotton slip.
    A few things to note:
You have to commit to hand-washing it with a special detergent, otherwise, don’t bother to buy one. A washing machine & standard detergent will wreck the fibres.
I bought some on ebay & if you buy from overseas, there will be a long wait for it to arrive in the mail. Also, some are only one-sided, which makes them cheaper. The momme rating is a weight measurement: a higher number is better quality. Look for 100% mulberry silk.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences 🙂 I might end up getting one… it’s just nowadays with the internet there’s so many “beauty fads” that sneak into your head through repetition (from coconut oil to rosequartz rollers) that end up not necessarily actually making that much of a difference that I question everything now!

I was also going to invest in a silk pillowcase too, but I have since changed my mind because I recently bought a flannelette sheet set (for winter warmth, haha) and have noticed that the flannelette pillows don’t leave lines on my face. And they’re pretty soft too.

I’m sure silk would probably be much cooler on the skin, so if you have sensitivity or flushing issues it would probably be worth it; but I just can’t justify it at the moment now that I’ve stumbled upon my flannelette revelation! Maybe I’ll be changing my mind when summer comes around..

I have two silk pillow cases, a Lilysilk and Ecosa one and am thinking of buying another.
Can’t live without mine now. I always used to wake up with pillow creases on my face when I used a cotton one. They usually have the option of a slip closure or envelope closure, both mine are envelope ones like your standard pillow case.

Never have an issue with creases on my face now. They are good for your skin and hair. Slip Silk and Shhh Silk also make them but I haven’t tried either brand. They’re not cheap but worth it in my opinion. Shhh silk now make ones which are silk on one side and cotton on the other. Shhh silk are also on Adore beauty website. On the lily silk website they have silk samples which you can send away for to help you make your choice of colour and silk. I did that when I purchased mine.
