Shampoo for Oily Hair

I need some advice on shampoo for oily hair.
My teenager is struggling with very oily hair,it is so oily she is washing it everyday.
I went to Coles yesterday to purchase shampoo specifically made for oily hair and could only find one
Herbal Essence Drama Clean.I also found a Redwin Tea Tree Shampoo which was shampoo to remove product build up.
Surely there are more shampoo’s designed for oily hair.
She can no longer use conditioner on her hair as it adds to her oil problems.
The oiliness of her hair is starting to affect her skin, she is developing a serious blackhead problem on her forehead
I am a bit stuck in what advice to give her, any help from fellow BH members would be much appreciated.

I have long hair that gets very oily quickly (I have to wash every second day!) but then dry at the ends. Unfortunately that’s just my skin type as my skin is very oily too, but I’ve been using shampoo/conditioners that are supposed to boast your hair volume, and for some strange reason, they seem to do a good job at keeping my oil down, and getting rid of that lank, limp oily look. My guess it that because the products are neither targeting oil or dryness, they simply boost your hair and give it more space to balance itself. I love the Garnier Volume range (super affordable, especially if you are washing every day), and the more expensive but more natural Body Shop Volume products.

I just repurchased 4 bottles of Petal Fresh clarifying
shampoo from iherb. SLS free but foams & lathers well.

cleans hair oily roots without drying hair.

    It is our HG.

So my favourite item from my Glosscars prize would probably be the muk Oily Scalp Shampoo, I really like how my hair feels after using it but I’m not sure how it could win when it only has one four star review, at least this non-reviewed product deserved the win. I will repurchase when I run out, can’t say that about anything else from the prize at this stage which I find a bit disappointing.

I also have oily hair (and I’m not a teenager, lol). I find if I wash my hair less often it is better. Also, sometimes changing the shampoo you’ve been using for a while can be beneficial. It’s weird, but it’s as though my hair gets used to the same shampoo and so it rebels, but when I change to a new shampoo, it behaves again. Good luck to your daughter. Hopefully the problem will be short-lived, and in her adult years she’ll have the locks she dreams of. 🙂

Hi Sassylily, Never Fear! There are heaps of shampoos out there for oily hair but coles is probably not the place to go for them. I have been struggling with oily hair for years and have found that Apivita’s Balancing Shampoo works the best! It also smell delicious and pepperminty. I always buy mine from Fresh (https://www.fragrancesandcosmetics.com.au/hair-care/apivita/propoline/147288/balancing-shampoo-with-peppermint-propolis-for-very-oily-hair), they seem to have lowest prices and offer free delivery on all orders. I would also recommend that your daughter starts using conditioner again but that she only applies it to the tips of her hair, instead of rubbing it into her scalp.

I have oily hair and find it is good to change shampoos regularly. I usually have two in my shower which I can switch to every few washes. I have found that Redken do an oily shampoo which is realllllly good, but a little expensive. I used to use that and then have a cheaper one available to switch to every few washes. Since I have been colouring my hair blonde, I have also found my hair not as oily. I would say the blonde is soaking up the oil, but it is still there (just not as bad). I also saw BH posted an article on various hair products including dry shampoo. I bought the Toni and Guy dry shampoo and it is great for the second or third day so you don’t have to wash it.

    Hey guys,

Was gonna start a thread of my own but the site has disabled making threads for now. I’ll try asking here in the meantime. Could someone tell me what shampoos are definitely clarifying ones? I’ve looked around Coles and nothing uses the word clarifying, but some people are saying shampoos like Drama Clean are in fact clarifying. Does anybody know for sure? I pretty much only have Coles and Woolies where I live so hopefully one of them has something. I suffer from the oily skin curse as well. I usually get a perm to counter it but it’s getting to that time again where my natural hair has grown out too much and grease is showing it’s ugly face again.
