OGX Weightless Hydration Coconut Water Vs. Protane Naturals Coconut Water Hair Care

Hi guys.

I went to Aldi last Friday and picked up the Protane Naturals Coconut Water Hydrating Shampoo, Conditioner and hair oil. It seems like they might be a knock off of the OGX Weightless Hydration Coconut Water range. Has anyone tried both?

The Aldi Shampoo and conditioner are only $5 each! So far I’m really impressed with how soft my hair is without being greasy. The shampoo is sulfate free as well which is awesome for me. Highly recommended!

I also picked up a coconut hand cream which is in the same packaging but under the Lacura brand which is super hydrating without being heavy.

I actually raced back to Aldi to get more of everything after trying them out because they don’t usually stock them.

Only a year late with my reply, after doing a search for the OGX shampoo and conditioner on the site.

I am currently using the Cherry Blossom shampoo and conditioner, but alternated days of the conditioner with the Protane Coconut Water conditioner because I found using the Protane conditioner, although making my hair feel thicker, also gave it too much weight. Using it every second day has done absolute wonders for my hair.

My hair is very fine, and very healthy but can get frizzy on winter days, and has no volume therefore won’t curl. It curls after using the Protane conditioner (with a protectant oil, of course).

Absolutely adore the scent of the OGX Cherry Blossom products. Wasn’t as keen on the Protane Coconut Water conditioner, although it wasn’t bad. Was still good for my hair.

I only applied both conditioners from mid-hair down, never to my scalp.

I haven’t tried the coconut water range, but I’ve tried the Protane Morrocan Oil shampoo compared to the OGX Morrocan Argan oil shampoo. I found that there was a definite difference in quality – the OGX shampoo smelt nicer, was thicker, made a nicer lather and looked like it actually had argan oil in it (from the golden colour, compared to Protane’s greyish colour).

For my thick, dry, curly hair, I’d definitely go with the OGX, as it is definitely more moisturising, but for maybe finer hair or olier hair, I don’t think it would make much of a difference, and I would go with the cheaper alternative, the Protane product.

Like I said previously, I can’t really help with your particular question, but I hope this gives you an insight into the difference in quality.

      Hey there,

Thanks for your input, JustACurlyGirl. That`s interesting that they are basically copying the OGX range. I might end up trying it out and coming back and answering my own question ;).

From looking at the ingredients of the coconut water range, OGX and Protane look almost identical, but there are a couple of differences. So far so good, with the Aldi range. They are sulfate free (I need this for my sensitive scalp) and silicone free too. I do have quite fine hair and have found argan oil to be a bit too heavy for me, so this one is working out really well.
