My Hair Doesn’t Like Coconut Oil

Over the past 4 days I have done 2 coconut oil treatments on my fine, frizzy, wavy/curly, 2a-b medium length hair. I applied the oil throughly all throughout my hair when it was dry and left it in overnight. I normally cowash (honestly it isn’t much less drying to my hair than shampooing) every other day, so it was with hesitation that I shampoo’d twice with MooGoo (which btw was no different than any other shampoo in regards to helping my dandruff and dryness/frizz) and followed by massaging in conditioner like when I cowash. That day my hair was quite puffy, near my roots it was soft but dull, but oh my gosh my dandruff was awful! Almost migrating down my forehead O.O. My ends were puffy, frizzy, not very soft, and had only a slight wave. My next wash day, I only shampoo’d once and then massaged in my conditioner (tresemme naturals moisture). SAME RESULTS. I can’t believe that my hair would be protein sensitive/not needing protein because not only is my hair fine (therefore more likely to need protein) but I’m vegetarian so I don’t get as much protein as most. Has anyone had this problem? Did protein treatments work for you? Or do you have another deep conditioning solution?

Think I should share the solution that my sister has found in fixing her hair problem. She used this Euphoric argan oil she purchased online (here’s the link: http://www.amazon.com/Euphoric-Argan-Oil-Hair-Professional/dp/B00GJ6DNIU/ie=UTF8?m=A2CJ7T0KZUFVP6&keywords=argan+oil+for+hair) and as soon as she started using this product, I have noticed the immense improvement on her hair! Her hair is frizzy before but it improved a lot now. I know that individuals have such different reaction from a given product, but maybe it could also work for you. 🙂

The body developing packages are intended in accordance with every single kind’s physique and therefore they can’t fit anyone. The incorrect muscle building system can wreck your work out there regimen fully. One more negative aspect involving not fit muscle building packages will be that they can might result in one’s body constructor incidents including muscles draw as well as lingering muscles soreness. You not just hang around inside the gym excessive sweating the idea out there and you additionally get rid of your electricity. The body developing system will not likely profit when you proceed while using similar muscle building system.

Oh thank you! I thought I was the only one that had this issue! Everyone raves about it, but I end up with crunchier hair than I started with!

    Thanks imalittleteapot!
CurlFriday, I’ll do that once I get home. But I should say I don’t have a problem with buildup. My conditioner is able to erase all traces of product (haven’t tried cowashing out oil treatments though). And my 2nd day hair is normally not oily. 3rd day hair, however is slightly.

I’ve been thinking about this Danniro. When you apply the coconut oil, do you apply it just to the ends or to the roots as well ?? I have fine hair which can be quite porous and when I use oil in my hair, I only concentrate on the ends. I leave it in overnight and then wash my hair in the morning twice to get it out and then follow on with conditioning.

I put it all over. Definitely made sure my ends were soaked though.
I wonder if it has something to do with how it felt when I shampooed, my hair began to feel very rough and stiff when I started to shampoo out the oil. I don’t remember that happening with jojoba oil though

I’ve recently been using Hello Hair which is made up of coconut oil, almond oil & argan oil. My hair feels great after use. I have an A line bob and get about four uses out of a 100g mask.

Well for the past couple weeks i have been cowashing every other day with tresemme naturals nourishing moisture conditioner. When I don’t “wash” I condition still. I tried a V05 hot oil treatment recently too and have been using this l’oreal volume stuff you mix with your conditioner a bit here and there. I wrap my hair in a turbie towel after my shower and after maybe 20-30 minutes I put It’s a 10 miracle leave in plus keratin all throughout. I also smooth paul mitchell curls full circle leave in treatment and scrunch. Then I usually just go. For a while I tried blowdrying my hair smooth but it always ends up poofy. And like I said I haven’t been using siicones or sulfates, for about 4 months. I also have a flakey scalp, which I’m gonna see a dermatologist for next week. My scalp has been quite bad when I shampooed to get oils out. And to add to the description of my hair in the first post i believe it’s low porosity. And the water in my area is very soft.

I’m curious about the ingredients in all the products you mention. Some things other than silicones can build up and cause problems, like esters and polyquats. Could you take a picture of the ingredients panels and post them perhaps? In the five years I’ve been cowashing I must’ve read thousands of ingredient decks and I’m happy to have a look. What you’re describing sounds like possible buildup to me.

One of the best things I ever did (apart from starting cowashing) was having an analysis of my hair done by Wendy of Science-y Hairblog. https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/158218594/hair-analysis-physical-properties-of . Wendy is super professional and thorough.
Danniro, what is your routine like? What are your hair properties? Maybe with some extra info we can out our heads together and spot the problem 🙂

I think I might have this done! Thanks 🙂

Danniro the apricot oil smells a bit like sweet almond oil, but not a lot of smell really.
Petel those links are great! – I’d never thought about hair porosity before – I’ll have to test my hair now!

Rosie, I think that the ultimate way to find out the porosity of your hair is through Wendy of Science-y Hairblog, sending some of your hair samples, and getting her to analyse them. I think she says that the DIY methods of determining porosity aren’t always 100% accurate.
