I used Al’Chemy Shampoo’s now but to help with my scalp eczema (my scalp itched like mad and constantly had yucky dry flakes in it) I used Nizoral 2%
You get it in the chemist on the shelf and I have to say I was really suprised by how effective it was. Within a couple of weeks my scalp was better.
I still use it on occasion when I start to feel alittle itchy.
After I fixed my scalp I started sticking to the natural shampoos since I’m allergic to most everything else.

I agree with getting a shampoo and conditioner without sulphates. I had tried so many different products and nothing seemed to help my itchy scalp. Within a few washes using a sulphate free shampoo and conditioner my scalp was no longer itchy. I got my sulphate free shampoo & conditioner from a discount hair car supply shop (brand names at discounted prices).

My dad has psoriasis and the dermatologist recommended him to use the neutrogena Tgel shampoo – works pretty well. The main ingredient controlling the itch is coal tar. So if you can find a shampoo with coal tar in it – though it can be harmful for the eyes in large doses.

There must be proper cleanliness of scalp to reduce itching and oil massage is the best remedy for it as the main reason for itchiness is dry scalp or dandruff so it can be cured primarily by regular oil massage.

MooGoo is my weapon against itchy scalp, which is caused by using cheap sulphate loaded shampoos, since I stopped using them I no longer have the problem, but if any hair care product irritates my scalp then its always MooGoo to the rescue, nothing works better 😉

Your scalp might be itchy because you don’t use a shampoo gentle enough. If you don’t wanna go sufate free completely, try to avoid shampoos with amonium sulfate laureth and lauryl and sulfate lauryl – apparently sulfate laureth is ok. I use Redken even though they’re not sulfate free i love their products.

Also if your hair is falling out a little, you might want to buy some organic virgin coconut oil (i buy mine at my local health shop) and apply it to your lengths and give your scalp a little massage just before washing your hair. It will moisturise your scalp so it should help with the itchiness but coconut oil also prevents loss of protein when washing your hair so it will fall less.

My mum works for a skin specialist and if you are really worried you could get a referral and see a skin specialist that will probably give you something via a prescription. I would certainly try the natural alternatives first. Goodluck.

Hi Retro I agree with Cornflakegirl1….I had sebhorreic dermatitis and an extremely itchy scalp for years and tried everything from Head and Shoulders to coal tar based products (Neutrogena T Gel etc). The best thing you can do for a sensitive/itchy scalp is to ditch commercial brands and look for organic/natural products that will nurture your hair and scalp. I love MooGoo Milk Shampoo and Cream Conditioner (in health food stores or online at http://www.moogoo.com.au). The Purist Company also make some wonderful products and my favourite varieties are the Al’Chemy Rosemary Shampoo and Avocado and Calendula Conditioner. I’ve also used the Rice Amino Intensive Care shampoo and Macadamia and Wheat Conditioner and they are fabulous. Really good value too as you can buy a big pump pack for about $30 and you don’t need a lot of product for them to be effective.

If you suffer from sensitive facial skin and scalp like I do you could also try converting your facial care products to those from MooGoo and A’kin – I use A’kin Rose and Geranium Creamy Cleanser and MooGoo Full Cream. By keeping chemicals/parabens/sulfates away from your scalp you will notice a marked improvement in your symptoms. When my scalp is feeling a bit dry I also massage a few drops of rosehip oil and jojoba oil into it, walk around the house for an hour or so and then wash my hair. You could do this overnight if you wanted to as an alternative.

If you are having a lot of hair fall I also recommend supplementing your diet with some selenium tablets (Swisse make a Hair, Skin and Nails formula which is rich in selenium and vitamins/minerals that build connective tissues). Wild Salmon Oil and Zinc are also wonderful and will help to hydrate your skin and scalp from the inside out. They also boost the immune system so if any nasty bacteria is lurking on your skin/scalp it can be controlled.

The last natural treatment you might consider is Apple Cider Vinegar. Use 1/2 a cup over your hair and scalp once a week. As your scalp is slighly acidic the alkalinity in the vinegar will reduce localised inflammation and help to keep the pH of your skin healthy.

I hope this helps, let us know how you go!!
