Hair dye DIY

Hi everyone! I am wanting to do a DIY hair dye job. I usually get it done at the salon but since I just want one all over colour, I figure I can save some money and DIY. Can anyone recommend some good brands for a first-timer? I am brunette and will be looking for a richer brown so pretty similar to my own hair colour.

P.S any cruelty free hair dye brands would be awesome as well 🙂

Thanks!!

I’ve been DIY dyeing for years. I’ve now settled on Olia (by Garnier) which is great for brunettes and has no ammonia.

That’s the one! Lol it’s so much better for your hair than most dyes! Highly reccomend it!

I have no idea if this is cruelty free but I home dyed my mums hair with the Oila ? I think it’s called? It’s on this site somewhere but it isn’t like most dyes and is fairly easy to wash off as far as mess goes, also it’s oil based and is actually ALOT better than most dyes for your hair and scalp. 😊

Hi could someone here help me with finding a colour similar to this picture. It won’t let me create a new topic sorry.

The thing is its going to depend on the colour you are now as to exactly what colour a dye will turn out. It looks like its a two toned colour as the top is not as light as the ends so you might be better to go to the hairdressers rather then to try this at home.
It looks like a mix of an ash grey and a strawberry

Its good you can dye your colors yourself. It is easy or you can take help of our friends or family too.

The loreal preference is nice, I have shoulder length hair and I need 2 boxes.

I’d try loreal casting creme gloss. It’s one of the only semi permanent dyes (28 washes) that you can get. It subtly fades which I love. I touch mine up with this every couple of months 🙂

Good luck! If I were you I’d use a foam formula like John Frieda or Loreal Paris because you’re a first time DIY-er 🙂
