Embracing your natural hair texture vs. heat styling

I have been trying to shift back toward embracing my natural hair texture where I can (messy loose curls), which a tiny bit of help from a curling want just to tidy it up a little in the morning. I can’t quite decide what works out better for me time-wise. Sometimes I feel like trying to name my natural hair requires so much more effort than using a straightener to create straight hair or loose waves. I would love to hear your thoughts on this, and what your personal preference is!

Feel your pain! My hair sounds similar to yours. I have fairly long hair and if i don’t either straighten it or give it a little assistance with a curling wand, it turns more into a bouffant, so i end up wearing it in a top bun.

Hi CoffeeTimeT, Nothing about my hair is natural; it is so chemically processed. But the only way I can go without heat styling is to have my hair in a pony, bun or plaits. If I want to leave my waist-length hair open heat styling is a must.

I have messy, wavy hair that is prone to frizz and what I find works best if I want to avoid using hot styling tools is to use a good hair oil (I use argan oil) or a nice leave-in conditioner at night and then plait my hair before going to sleep. I then will wake up, un-plait my hair and have beautiful, defined natural curls all ready to go.
