Do you look at how many ingredients? ?

I have become more aware of what product’s i am starting to use on my hair as shampoo and conditioner/hair treatment, and when I look at the ingredients its a never ending list of word’s I’ve never heard and some sound not so good for your hair and I wonder even though the product promises healthy hair it worries me is it worth putting all those nasty ingredients on your hair/skin. So I would like some feedback from BH Members on your opinion if it matters to you if there’s 20 plus ingridients but somehow the label says it will re vitalise your hair?? Would you still purchase it??

Yes. I look at everything. I like my skincare/hair care/makeup to be really simple. Happy to sacrifice on a bit of performance to have a low chem product.

I try to keep up to date with lists of banned/questionable products because of my history with breast cancer I think this is probably the best place to share my latest:

    1. http://www.ceh.org/news-events/press-releases/content/lawsuit-launched-testing-finds-cancer-causing-chemical-in-100-shampoos-haircare-products/ and
    2. http://www.womensvoices.org/avoid-toxic-chemicals/salon-products/hair-straightening-products-containing-formaldehyde/ this gives you banned, recalled and OK products.
    3. Skin Cancer Foundation US recommend Rite Aid Oil Free Faces Sunscreen Lotion which is fragrance free with all the inactive ingredients listed. Please note that Dimethicone, Methylparaben, and Propylparaben are OK, one a silicone & 2 parabens. I double checked with Cancer Research UK and they didn’t have them listed as no nos.

i like so many here also look at the products ingredients list and also keep away from Parabens and amoungst others, its the realisation that our skin is practically a sponge absorbing everything we put on our skin, we are so weary to wear gloves when using chemicals to clean our homes etc so we also need to understand that some of the chemicals that are in our products are usually worse off then what we use to clean. My hubby works with chemicals which are toxic and i am appalled to notice that some of the chemicals in some of our expensive products contain the same toxic chemicals that my husband works with so when we fork out huge amounts to make our skin ‘look’ better what we are really doing is forking our large amounts of money to poison us, sad fact unfortunetely 🙁

I’m allergic to something in the Neutrogena oil free eye makeup remover but I don’t know what ingredient did that. I know a lot of people like this product but I hate this because it gave me a skin rash that took 2 weeks to heal.

It’s made me wary of trying new things though and I briefly scan the ingredient list of whatever I buy but really, I don’t know what I’m looking for. :S

Yikes! This one was on my list to try next when my current eye makeup remover runs out. As I have sensitive eyes I don’t think I’ll risk it!

Strangely enough, a lot of people with sensitive eyes/skin on makeupalley seem to love the Neutrogena eye makeup remover. I’m almost finished the Face of Australia gentle makeup remover that claims to be oil and paraben free (I still feel like there’s a bit of oil residue left on my lids though) and it removed my makeup just as well as the Neutrogena, minus the rash >:)

I think I’m gonna go with the Garnier micellar water next.

Usually the oil free eye makeup removers have silicon in them, that makes it more gentle on your eyelids and that’s what the oil feeling is. At least that’s the deal with an eye makeup remover I have.

Ohhh that makes sense. Thank you! 🙂 I’m using the Garnier micellar cleansing water again and it takes off my makeup (especially mascara!) so well. I don’t know why I ever deviated from it in the first place. 😛

This happened to me with this product too.
I find so many products hurt my eyes or sting. And I don’t think I’m sensitive. Surely that says some though.
I try to avoid highly fragrenced products cause I think it can’t be too good. That said I do love my body lotions that smell really good.

I get severe redness and itchiness from Philosophy Purity Cleanser (!!), which I have only heard everyone else in the world rave on and on about. So my conclusion is that you just really don’t know what your skin is going to react to.

I try and stay away from ‘nasties’ e.g. sulphate, parabens etc. but to be honest I usually get too excited at the store and forget to look at the ingredients then get home and feel guilty about using the product even though I might really like the results. Also, I never look at ingredients in my makeup “because it’s not skincare and we don’t apply it all over” but yeah we kind of do and sometimes for 12 hours at a time! But I can’t help myself, natural makeup is not as ‘coveted’ I guess. You know what I mean.

I always look at ingredients. I try to stay away from SLS and parabens (as parabens have been shown to cause cancer). I try to stick with organic or natural products that have the least amount of ingredients because ultimately what you put on your body gets absorbed!

    I recently read http://np.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/19yazf/psa_the_potential_link_between_parabens_and/
    https://www.riteaid.com/pharmacy/health-information/skin-care/sunscreen
where apparently the link between certain parabens and cancer have been debunked
I had breast cancer so I am very careful with what I use on my hair and on my face, body.

I have sensitive eyes and don’t have a problem with the Neutrogena eye makeup remover. I’m using both Garnier micellar water and Innoxa super sensitive makeup remover, both have worked well for me, no irritation at all 🙂

I still might give the Neutragena one a go then. I’ll get it when it’s next on sale so it’s not such a loss if it doesn’t work for me.
I’m using the garnier water at the moment but haven’t tried it on eye makeup (I guess it’s so ingrained in me to use two separate products!) so I’ll try that too. If neither work I’ll try the Innoxa.
Thanks for the suggestions ladies! 🙂
