Do you clean your hot irons?

I just invested in a Cloud 9 wide iron hair straightener and it’s great. I never really looked after my GHD, but I want to with the Cloud 9. Do you clean your hair straighteners regularly/at all? If so, how, what with?

I find if you use more hair care products after showering, or styling sprays in your hair prior to ironing, you get more build-up in your iron, so even if you use a tissue on your iron before turning it on, it is better than nothing.

Yes, I’m the same, I just give it the once over with a damp cloth after use – never had any problems doing this!

Never actually thought about cleaning any of my hair straightener/ curler products before, good idea though! Considering how much gunk mine probably had accumulated as a result of all the heat-protectant spray, oil and god knows what else, I really should get on to it. Will probably use some spare baby wipes I have lying around, unsure if that is a good idea?

I clean my hair straightener after every use to get the oils from my hair off the straightener, I clean it with a damp cloth 🙂

No. What do you clean them with?

Oh absolutely. Mine is a GHD and I look at it as a long-term investment! So if I look after it, it will look after me.

Yes, I have started looking after mine now. I neglected the last one and we invest so many dollars in them, I should at least be giving it a quick wipe down. Thanks for the advice and tips all.

Opps I’ve never actually cleaned my curling iron before….but I do tend to wipe it down with a tissue after use? I think I’ll start using a wet wipe to clean it down from now on

I wipe mine with a dry cloth, which I might dampen if necessary. I don’t use my hair straightener as often as I do so I only do it when there is a build up of hair products. Sometimes I do it when it’s heating up which is why I try with a dry cloth.

Facial wipes or baby wipes are great. Keep an eye on the edge or the groove where the plates sit in the flat iron itself. You can get build-up here if you don’t watch it. I use cotton buds. I found I got a little build up if I use post-wash hair treatments (such as leave in conditioners and styling lotions) as it burns off when your hair is dry.
