Curly Hair Products!

Hey Guys,
I have naturally curly hair, and recently I have been neglecting it. I know…it’s a really bad thing to do…but now my hair is so frizzy and uncontrollable that I need to buy some products that will help it go back to what it was prior to my neglect.
Right now I have been using Lush’s Curly Wurly shampoo…which was a bit of a mess to use truthfully.
If you guys have any suggestions on good (hopefully cheap) curly hair shampoos and conditioners that would be awesome!

Also, my hair is so damaged and dry, I would love it if you guys could suggest any deep conditioning hair masks, leave-in treatments etc.
Thanks!!!

Hi, I am a curly hair stylist & use & sell Jessicurl products. They are wonderful for curly & wavy hair as they don’t contain any nasty ingredients.
Feel free to contact me if you want any further information. I work one week per month cutting curly hair in Brisbane but am generally based in North Qld. 🙂

I’ve also got naturally curly hair and I’ve been bleaching it regularly for 10+ years, (just to up the ante on the dry, frizzy quality!). Some time ago my then hairdresser who used to do an amazing job of bleaching my hair recommended Tigi honey and oatmeal shampoo and conditioner, which aren’t specifically aimed at curly hair but they were great. Admittedly they don’t come cheap so I can’t always justify buying them, but occasionally I find them on special and snap them up. It’s worth remembering that the same products can work differently on different people albeit with the same problem, but for a hair treat I thought these were very cost-effective.

I had a negative experience a few months ago where I used a protein conditioner and treatment which both made my hair like straw. When I asked my hairdresser about it, she said that protein is not usually good for curly/wavy hair. So if you’re considering buying products with protein in it, perhaps check with your hairdresser first to see if it is okay. I was surprised by how brittle my hair was considering that my hair isn’t even curly; it is more of a wave if a hairdresser cuts it properly, and the wave doesn’t last long.

I also recommend that you check out some fabulous curly hair websites and forums. I have found them very informative. Here are two:

    http://www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/

    http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/index.php?s=fb8a0d5ba2a00d28691c4ff19bc63207

I’m learning a lot about ingredients in hair care, porosity of hair, DIY recipes etc. Even though most of the products are only available in the US, I’m still finding the information valuable.

I swear by Redken! My hair is so frizzy and dry (from bleaching and surfing), and the Mask’s and shampoo’s & conditioners are amazing! As a hairdresser I would recommend you get your hair back into good condition (with some moisturising products) and then switch to something for curly hair.
If you go straight to stuff for curly hair then you won’t tackle the real problem which is your moisture levels.
Morrocan Oil is also really good. (Make sure it is the authentic brand though, there are lots of copies).

    Hope this helped
    Xx
