What to do in Melbourne?

Hi Melbourne BHs!

I’ll be heading over to Melbourne for a holiday next month and was wondering if any locals can suggest some fun things to do. Also any secret good shopping places and spa/massages! I’ve googled Melbourne Attractions but have to shortlist them.

We’ll be staying in Melbourne Central and it would be good if we could get to these places on public transport!

Thank you in advance!

There are so many little lane ways you can discover around the Melbourne CBD.

Yes you should definitely go to Queen Victoria Market its huge and got so much to offer from delicious foods to clothes and bonus its free and not far from Melbourne Central.

I would highly recommend going to Hardware Societe for breakfast, there’s usually a long wait but it is TOTALLY worth it. If you’re staying near Melbourne Central, it should only be a 5 minute walk 🙂

Also if you’re a chocolate lover, you should try out Haighs, there’s multiple along Collins St. The best choc bullets I’ve ever had.

The free tram line in Melbourne is amazing. Make sure you grab a map so you can figure out where the line stops/starts and where you might need a Myki to be able to travel outside of it.

Enjoy your trip! Very jealous haha

If you can take a day trip to the Yarra Valley- amazing food and wine in a really beautiful part of the world

I do want to try Queen Victoria’s night market! It is new but has a lot of things to see.
definitely go there during the day and see the difference at night?

The trams are all free within the CBD now so it’s super easy to get around the city not that it’s that big anyway. I love the Melbourne Zoo the most and Melbourne Museum is also interesting. The NGV art gallery and certain exhibitions in ACMI are free so they are worth a look if you are into that thing. You will find plenty of shopping at DFO and Melbourne Central if you like shopping. I would just wander around and see what you can find though as even growing up here I still find new things every time I visit the city.

I think we shall be heading the zoos way! Is food generally okay in the zoo or should we grab bite before heading over?

Melbourne shall be very exciting indeed! I love places where you can discover something new everytime you look. Unfortunately, I can`t really say the same for Perth. =.= Maybe I just have to look harder.

      Thank you keppers!

You’re in heart of city so there will be plenty to do! Melbourne Star, Eureka Tower, Melbourne Aquarium, Federation Square, Crown Casino and Yarra walk with lots of Cafes to name a few attractions. There are free trams that can take you for a tour around city. Enjoy your trip 🙂

      Thank you Beauty Obsession!

Will have a look around. Yay for free trams!

Talking about free trams there is the city circle tram / route 35.
It is a maroon coloured heritage tram with the words City Circle painted on it. It runs a loop around the city and plays audio commentary when it passes certain sites of interest (well it did a few years ago).

I love the arcades, especially the Block Arcade, they are so pretty to walk through and there are restaurants down there if you want to sit and enjoy it.

I also love the Exhibition Building and Gardens if it is nice weather and you want to sit and have a picnic.

The Emporium is new and quite nice for shopping.

For bargain shopping there is DFO South Wharf and there is the Spencer St Shops which includes Trade Secret.

In the Melbourne Central Shopping Centre the ground floor has a massive fob watch on display every hour the base drops and there is a little display to see…I won’t say anymore for it should be a treat 🙂

Arghhhh Elunia, you have me on the edge of my seat! So curious about this display now! Must…. resist urge to google it. Will see it in person!

Thank you for the other suggestions too!

Block Arcade looks amazing, I`m really into heritage looking places so will go look around.

And I love picnics too! Just need to find a day with great weather to go.

I don’t live in Melbourne but when I go we like to go to Zumbo, N2, ice skating, shopping at the DFOs and harbour town and lunch at Gazi. Eureka sky deck is also pretty cool if you haven’t been before.

      Thanks for suggestions, Stef!

Looks like I shall be eating a lot of dessert and the Sky Deck looks amazing. We`ll see if I`m game enough for the Edge experience.

I have been to Melbourne before when I was a teenager but can`t remember anything about it except little penguins so it`ll feel like my first time there all over again haha.
