Obtaining a refund from fraudulent online company

Hi ladies. I was just wondering if any of you knew the best way to try to obtain a credit card refund after purchasing online goods that never arrive.

I have contacted the company via email and phone in order to get a tracking number on the goods, but their phone is disconnected and I receive no response to emails.

It’s only a matter of $40, but a refund would be nice! My payment was made via Paypal.

Any advice would be appreciated:)

Thanks ladies. Yes Trish, it is a terrible feeling, but I guess it’s bound to happen from time to time when shopping online. Kisses to the kitties xox

Wonder of wonders! I just managed to make contact with the company and then two seconds after I put the phone down the postie arrived with my order! Sorry I took your time with this topic ladies. It was the longest I have ever waited for an order from Sydney and the behaviour was very suss! Have a good day:) xx

Has it been longer than 45 days since you’ve paid? If so then Paypal probably won’t help and I’d be contacting your bank. If it’s under 45 days, log into your Paypal account and raise a dispute. It will most likely go in your favour going by the situation you’ve posted.

Thanks so much Roxy. I had thought of some of these options, but I knew there would be someone here who had done it themselves and knew the most effective way. Thank you!

I would definitely go to Paypal first – you can also call them direct. Just go to the Help tab and click on it. Otherwise you can open up a dispute online. But I definitely would contact the ACCC as it is important that the company does not continue to do business if it has ‘closed’.

cat lover, can you speak to your bank and let them know what’s happened. They may be able to reverse the payment, I’m not 100% sure but it may take forms to be filled out and some investigation on their part.

Also the ACCC may have some suggestions. Does the PayPal website have any info regarding fraudulent activities?
And does this company itself have a complaints or resolutions dept or email? Its a bit last resort try, but still better to find out.

It’s terrible that this happened to you and I hope you get your money back.

You can also contact the ACCC and report the name of the company so that it is listed.
