Mobile Phones

I know everyone probably has the latest IPhone but I need a new basic Smart Phone that doesn’t cost the earth and after going into shops, reading online “expert” reviews I’m getting a bigger headache by the day which one to get. I just want a simple, reliable, phone with a decent camera and smart capabilities which I can turn on and off as needed. Anyone found a good one and which ones should I avoid at all costs. From girl to girl maybe someone on here can help out as tired of the sales pitches from providers.

I purchased my phone years ago. At a guess most likely about 5. I just wanted a phone that was a phone. I dont have internet on my phone although I do use the wifi at home and now with the QLD Health QR code app installed I will connect to wifi at the local shopping center so that I can sign in to the various shops that I go to. I didnt think that I would ever use the camera but I do use it and have found it quite helpful at times. Such as the time I forgot my glasess and couldnt read the print on an item I was looking to buy. I took a photo of it and then enlarged the photo so i could read what it said 😀

I got a Samsung Galaxy J PRO 7. I didnt want to spend a million dollars. I dont think you can get this model any more but the Samsung Galaxy A11 is available at Big W for $149 and as far as i know thats the updated version of my phone.

Bumping this up as it’s old and technology changes so quickly.
With everywhere now requesting people use a QR code to do the basic things like grocery shopping. Can anyone recommend a pretty basic smart phone that’s easy to use, I don’t want to spend a fortune on features I won’t use. Not a selfie taking person.

    Thanks in advance.

I got my mum the samsung galaxy s5 and she’s doing alright with it. Nothing fancy and it’s pretty easy to use.

Oh I loved the old Nokias! I loved how you could personalise them (changing the colours etc).
I can’t stand smartphones. I recently upgraded from an old Blackberry 9900 (buttons!) to the Galaxy s6 edge. There’s nothing wrong with the edge but I hate being so accessible all the time. At least with the old phones you weren’t expected to have Facebook etc on it.
Anyway, the S6 is kind of expensive but I’d recommend the Galaxy s4. My mum has it and she loves it as it’s simple to use and it has a fantastic camera.

Sassie, the main reason why I chose my smartphone was because it was a Nokia upgrade, it has a decent camera and it is a larger size (I have wide fingers). I consider myself to be computer literate, although not a computer genius, so I didn’t think of researching a smartphone that was easy to use. I will eventually work out how to use my new phone because it cost so much! Good luck with buying your new phone.

I loved my old Nokia phone and it refused to die. Recently, the charger broke so I decided to buy a new smartphone. After intensive research, I decided to buy a Microsoft Lumia 640 XL. Even after reading countless reviews, I forgot to check for one crucial thing, and that was how easy the phone was to use. Firstly, I couldn’t work how to insert the SIM card so I had to go to the retailer to ask them to fit the SIM card. I still haven’t worked out how to use the phone. So far I can switch it on and occasionally I can find the menu. One day I will have to dedicate some time to work it out!

I would recommend a Samsung Galaxy s4 – thats what I have had for over 2 years now and its great! Its not the latest model as they have the s6 now but it does mean that its really affordable now. It has everything you need & more in a smartphone and its super easy to use.

I bought my mum one for her birthday as well a few months ago and she absolutely loves it.

If you are not in a rush to get it and can wait 1-2 weeks, I would recommend that you buy your phone from Kogan. It is sooooo much cheaper on Kogan than in the shops & comes with the same warranty but just like with any online purchases you have to wait for it to arrive in the post. I also bought my husband a fancy phone from Kogan recently and it took around a week and a bit to arrive which is not too bad (my mums phone was also purchased on Kogan). Your order is tracked online and arrives by courier to your address.

Some of the cheaper and random models of phones might seem like a good bargain but I would personally get something decent and well known with good reviews rather than having to replace it within a few months time.

I have owned iPhones before which was great but they always seemed to mysteriously stop working once the new model came out & warranty expired, thereby forcing me to upgrade. Needless to say I got tired of that and switched to android phones and have never looked back. Plus I cannot justify paying $1,000 for an iPhone! Android phones have same or even better specs and are generally cheaper than iphones. Its a personal choice really as iphones are really user friendly as well.

I also agree with the above – the really old Nokias were absolutely fabulous! I loved changing the colours of them and the fact that it would work no matter how many times I dropped it. Not to mention battery life – none of the new phones come close to lasting as long as my old Nokia 3210 did 🙂
Unfortunately I think that Nokia ownership has changed hands in recent years and that they no longer are that great in terms of their new model phones – thats just based on reviews I’ve read but I actually havent owned a Nokia in years.

    Hope that helps 🙂

I have a Nokia dumb phone and it’s super reliable. I have dropped it and it’s fallen apart a bit, but when I put it back together it still works really well. It’s like bullet proof! 🙂 Anyway, I’ve heard from many of my friends that “Nokias are supposed to be super reliable” and so far, I think they’re right. Nokia make a smart phone called a “Lumia” and there’s some cheaper or more expensive versions of it, so you really have some excellent options. Personally, I would go for the iPhone 6, even if it does cost a fortune (or an iPhone 4, they’re AMAZING!). You can get them on a plan for very reasonable prices. But anyway, it’s all up to you. Just a recap: iPhones = Best, Nokias = 2nd Best in my humble opinion. 🙂

P.S. Oh…and btw, whatever you do, do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT get an iPhone 5. They have had so many problems it’s not funny. I love Apple and their amazing products, but the iPhone 5 sucks. Trust me. 🙁
