Best Holiday Destination

So I’m trying to surprise my husband (for our wedding anniversary next March) with an overseas holiday!

And I am just wondering what countries, hotels and activities you ladies would recommend?

We both love relaxing by the beach but are into adventure as well, hubby more so than me.

Budget will also play a big part in the destination choice, but I’m open to suggestions…
So far I’m liking Bali and Hawaii. But I’m a bit concerned with Bali, I have heard it can get quite rough and dangerous but I know thats only certain areas… So what areas are the best?
Xx

Having been to Hawaii twice, I’d definitely recommend staying 3 nights max in Honolulu & then getting out of there & staying on one of the other islands. Youarebeautiful is right about the homeless people situation – I went in 2005 for the first time & barely saw any of them, yet when I went in 2009 there were lots of them…and prostitutes roaming the streets of Waikiki trying to pick up…and a whole host of other folk trying to spruik timeshare accommodation…whilst the timeshare folk were there the first time I went, the prostitutes weren’t. My Dad described Honolulu/Waikiki as “the Gold Coast on steroids”, which is possibly about right. I loved Honolulu the first time I went, not so the 2nd time. If I ever went back, I’d explore Maui or Kona instead.

Has anyone been to Vietnam?? I am going there next month with a friend for two weeks and I have no idea what to expect. It was a bit of a spontaneous decision! 🙂 I’d love to hear recommendations on where to go, what to do etc. Thanks!

I lived in Hawaii for about 4 years when I was in the Navy. I spent most of my time in Oahu, but I did get to Maui – which is beautiful! There are a lot of pros about Hawaii.
    1. It’s beautiful and the weather is always amazing.
    2. The people are friendly.
    3. It’s quite safe.
    4. Not a long trip.
    5. You can easily and affordably island hop and see a few islands.
Oh, and there’s a Sephora on Oahu! 🙂

Oh wow! Sounds amazing! Friends of ours have been to Hawaii a few times, and they LOVE it. They rave about it constantly.
I’m thinking I wanna go too!

I have never met anyone who visited Hawaii and was disappointed. 🙂

I definitely recommend Hawaii! I went with my partner and a married couple we are good friends with last year. We spent the majority of our time in Kona. We hired a car while we were there and spent time driving around the island and we also did this fantastic helicopter tour over the volcanoes. We also went to Honolulu for a while which we also enjoyed.

I have not been to Bali before. I’m not so keen to go there to be honest. My partner and I have been to Thailand a couple of times though and we enjoyed that. Thailand is a bit cheaper than Hawaii. We tend to splurge on 5 star accommodation there because it is such good value. In Kona (Hawaii) we stayed at a fabulous bed and breakfast which I can give you details of if you want to know. 🙂

I would love the details! Personally I would rather Hawaii, What were your thoughts on Thailand vs Hawaii? Hubby is very into adventure and I would rather go somewhere that he can explore his little heart out!

You know, it’s hard to compare. They are both great places to visit in their own way. I think if your husband is very into adventure and being active, Hawaii would be the better choice. Hiking, surfing, diving, helicopter tours – all of that is available there. I think Thailand is a little more laid back. Good for having a relaxing, resort-style holiday.

If you want a great place to stay which is away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu, take a short flight over to The Big Island and stay in Kona. I can recommend this bed and breakfast very highly: http://hawaiianoasis.com/ Dano will be your host and he cooks an amazing breakfast! He is brilliant. So friendly and helpful. He had tons of advice and recommendations for us. I’d never stayed in a B&B before and was wary of privacy and things like that but I was pleasantly surprised. We had the place to ourselves a lot of the time and when we didn’t, we met some interesting fellow-travellers. It was like staying in someone’s massive guest house and it really added to our overall great experience of Hawaii.

I’d love to go back and see the other islands one day. I hear Maui is great. 🙂

My sister worked in San Jose de Buenvista on the Island of Penay in the Phillipines, she loved it.
Borakay (not sure if that’s how you spell it) is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and the people are awesome.
My tip, minimise the time you spend in Manila though.
So beautiful, the country, the beaches and the people.
