Best Health Insurance for a young women?

Hey Beauties!

I’m on the market for health insurance! I definitely need to get some dental work done so that is a priority. I’m a 23 year old, non-smoker. I think just a general health insurance plan will be enough for me. I don’t have any specific health concerns (not that I am aware of) but I do suffer from heart palpitations.

I was wondering what your experiences have been in terms of cover, costs, waiting periods or anything else that factors into making a decision on what health insurance to go with. I am completely new to this so any info/help will be appreciated.

Thanks!

I received a letter to say all health insurance will rise as from : 01/4 . Again this is the time to re-assess your coverage, dropped our cover down to basics to save a considerable amount . It is very disappointing once again our health system .

I joined Peoplecare in NSW a year ago so far been good and claimed a few things . However I am wondering in generally whether its worth just doing Hospital Cover as I heard that its more of a cost for hospital rather than extras as you don’t use everything and you can just use your own savings. What does everyone else think if you had to pick one or another ?

As you are not in Queensland, whatever you get, you want to be sure it covers ambulance (particularly as you have heart palps). Also, check to see what providers will waive the waiting period because you are in good health. If you go with iSelect, they will not include the big providers like Medibank Private and Bupa, so factor that into your decision making process.

Also, you may be able to get a discount through your car insurance. Some banks and credit unions also have their own private medical, so that’s something else to consider.

Oh, and your employer may have a corporate discount, so ask about that too.

Thanks ladies, I’ve tried the comparison websites but it still really confuses me all haha!

I don’t think I want hospital cover and I won’t be trying for a baby for a long time haha so I think just extras is all I need.

    Thanks!

I’m with Bupa and they have a plan where you can select 4 different things you need so you don’t have to pay for stuff you won’t use. I’m covered under all the dentals – general, major and orthodontics plus chiro. I pay $27.95 a month but I don’t have hospital cover though as that sky rockets the price. (I’m 22 and age does affect the price) There is a two month waiting period before you’re covered under general, but 12 months for major and orthodontics.

Definitely look around insurance companies because some do better deals, but at the time I got it, Bupa was best for me. And I’m fairly sure there are websites where you can compare insurance company prices so you don’t have to continuously jump between sites to see which is better.

Most waiting times are 6-12 months I believe.
Do you want extras or hospital too?
Is pregnancy cover required? That’s a 12 month waiting period so you need to sign up before you start trying.
Your probably best to get 2 or 3 quotes and try to compare.
Do you work or study? You might be able to get discounts there. When I first joined up, I used the company my employer had a corporate cover with as we got a discount.
Good Luck, they don’t seem to make it easy.

My son works for a Health Insurance Company, he is the manager of two shops in Victoria. I can ask him for some details. But what I would suggest is that you should never just go on what others may tell you to go with. I would say that perhaps you should do abit of research on a few Insurers. I know thats what my son would say. As if you work out in your own mind what you need. Like do you want Hospital ? Dental ? other items like optical ? Just think about your age and what you do and may need.
