Ponds Cold Cream

Hi Beauties,

Thought I’d mention that the long time cult classic Ponds Cold Cream (‘the cool classic that deep cleans & removes makeup’) is currently being sold at My Chemist for $4 for 99g jar or larger sized one for I think about $7.

I’ve been wanting to try this out the moment I discovered it was hard to get in Australia LOL….
And now I finally can – woohoo!

On a Ponds theme – went to a reject shop today & discovered they had Ponds Clarant B3 cream there for also $4 !! The blurb reads ‘this daily moisturizer evens the skin tone in 2 weeks, and reduces the appearance of dark spots in 4 weeks. It’s also been shown to improve the appearance of age spots, blotchiness and texture.’

Well I grabbed one to try & will be slathering it on my Décolletage area, since it is freckled & a bit tanned due to sun exposure – unlike the rest of my pale body! Not holding out much hope of it doing much – but you never know – it’s cheap enough to try out.

They have it at Chemist Warehouse for dirt cheap also…. it was between $2 and $4 i wasn’t paying attention lol… I was a bit sceptical reading that a cream could cleanse and remove makeup, i might have closer look though!

Oh my, I used to use that when I was a teenager – it was really thick. I’m not sure I’d be game enough to put it on my face now, lol.

I’ve seen Ponds around but i’m not too keen on the ingredients but if you like it, let us know =]

Yes – looking at the ingredients list is a total EEK!……
But it is a cult & cheap product that has been raved about for decades with many fantastic testomonials to it – so for $4 thought I’d finally give it a try.

It’s a cleanser – I wouldn’t leave it on my face as a moisturiser.
Worked really well last night, I think it might have even been faster / easier than using a face wipe (which I often would use through laziness for initial makeup removal).

Will keep on with it & see if it causes any outbreaks or I change my mind about using it…

OMG>…I used Ponds years and years ago, then POOF, it left the shelves. Thankfully, have found other products that I can use now so bye bye ponds.

I use a Pond’s facewash that I bought while i was overseas, I had lost my facewash and bought the first one that looked alright and it had salicylic acid :) it’s really foaming so i only use a tiny bit and it’s good for my oily skin…
I use the cold cream as a makeup remover before i wash my face… works pretty well for that.

I thought ponds cream is dove’s deep cleansing cream? As in someone told me that the reason why ponds is so hard to get a hold of is because they sold their product to dove and thats why dove has the deep cleansing cream and ponds is no longer on the big market shelves? But i could be wrong! LOVE that cream though …I started off with ponds cold cream and i fell in love .. i use it every night… but following with my theory of what happened with ponds i use dove now which i find equally just as good!

wow ponds, thats a name i havent heard of for years, it was my very first moisturiser and it was so thick, now i know better it would have made for a beautiful night cream.

Currently you can buy Ponds Cold Cream for $3.99 a tub at My Chemist.

It is the yummiest cleanser ever!! I went into My Chemist on Monday and picked up some tubs and it was in a very weird spot. It wasn’t near the skin care. I bought two tubs for $8.00 I was very happy =)
Chemist Warehouse also has the Ponds Cold Cream.

Just a side note, Unilever owns both Dove and Ponds.

hmm, I wonder what ingredients are in the cold cream. I saw it at Chemist Warehouse and they had dust all over the top of the lids lol. I want to try it now!

Nicoletmy – you’re correct about the Ponds/Dove connection.

I bought the Dove version when I found out it was the same as the old Ponds I used to use. It’s THE best thing for removing make-up – it gets every bit off! Does leave my skin feeling very greasy though, so I wash afterwards with a foaming cleaner, but would be fantastic for someone with very dry skin.

Thanks MsCosmetics for bringing up this topic. I used to use Ponds religiously until it disappeared from the shelves. I discovered that Dove Deep Cleanser was very similar or (well it seemed the same to me) and have been using that ever since. I assumed that Ponds had sold out to Dove and it’s good to know that that seems to have been correct. It’s still a great product (whatever it’s called) for dry skinned girls like me. The price at My Chemist sounds good though – I’ll check it out.

Ponds is just an emulsified mineral oil to make it into a creme. In fact any oil will clean your skin equally well it just doesn’t look as nice as a white creme and is a little messier. Sorbolene works equally well it’s just not as thick. No big miracle here.

My mum had this age ago and i remember trying it. Gave me the worst break out :( which sucks cause so many people swear by it

My nana is 92 and says she used ponds for years. Her skin is fabulous for her age. I tried looking for it once and coulnt find it then. I may try tracking it down and giving it a go.

I bought some Ponds Cold Cream the other day. Having had nothing to do with it since I was a small child, it’s difficult for me to remember exactly what it was like back then, however I had an inkling there is something different about it now. I seem to remember it being creamier and less oily than it is now, and am not sure whether the fragrance is the same. Anyway, after some investigation I discovered that Ponds has recently (in the last year or so) changed the formula for its cold cream.

The reason the formula was changed was supposedly because one of the original ingredients (Sodium Borate) was suspected of being a carcinogen. This decision has many long-time Ponds devotees up-in-arms due in no small part to the fact that some people are having allergic reaction to the new formula.

In the name of indulging my facination with vintage beauty products, I was wondering whether any of you BH ladies have experienced both the old formula (the one with only 7 ingredients) and the new one, and could tell me the differences you have noticed (fragrance, consistency, cleansing power etc). Thanks ladies!

Very interesting Longbowgilly! I think the Ponds products in CW are grey market stock, meaning that they’re probably not fake, but have been bought in bulk from stock that was not intended for the Australian market. I’ll be interested to hear what Ponds have to say in their response;)

Oh I used to have ponds when it stopped being sold I went onto Johnson and Johnson but eventually moved on in my skincare life :)

That’s SO annoying when your favorite product is discontinued! Both Dove and Ponds are owned by the same company, and some people say that there is a similarity between the Dove cleansing cream and Ponds cold cream, but on comparing the ingredients there is quite a difference. Ponds is still available in the UK and US, and they are huge in Asia where they produce some creams in very glam looking packaging. What a shame it’s no longer available here…I guess it just didn’t make economic sense for them.

It has been years since I tried this product but it definetly works, ortherwise why is it still here. People do still use it also you can afford to be generous with it. Go girl!!
