Hi, what are your favourite products to reduce pigmentation such as melasma?

I’ve never had this problem myself but..
A girlfriend of mine has pigmentation across her forehead, she tried everything from creams to acids peels.
The acid peels worked for about a month and then the pigmentation came back, I’m not quite sure about this, all I know is to apply sunscreen and stay out of the sun to stop it from developing further. Sorry not much help…

Clinque have a derma white range which are designed to brighten the skin and help fade pigmentation. some other brands have similar products too. I haven’t used the derma white range so I can’t comment on their results however I have used bio oil and rosehip oil on scars and freckles and haven’t noticed an improvement in the look of my skin and both have helped even out my skin tone.

I have melasma and have tried everything to get rid of it, from chemical peels to IPL, the best I have found so far is a cocktail of bleaching creams. I use a perscribed retin a cream to weaken the skin thus allowing other chemicals to work better. I use kojic acid cream once a day to lighten the spots as well as a Hydroquinone based cream.
The most impotant part is to minimise sun exposure, I wear a sixty+ sunscreen and a skin coloured zinc over the top.
Vanity is a shocking thing…..

I tried everything..
Fraxel gave me Hyperpigmentation…
IPL was temporary..
Hydroquinione can cause more problems that you can’t
treat..
In the end it was laser toning which got rid of it.
Seems like a miracle..
google: laser toning, melasma
You’ll be amazed..
Good luck!!

Jenju, where did you have the laser toning done? It seems like the Asian countries are larger users and I couldn’t find anywhere in Oz.

i say go to an asian grocer or an asian beauty store, they ususally stock whitening creams. i know, they whiten your skin but they evenly tone it so that any acne scar marks/ freckles slowly disappear. i use an asian whitening cream that was recommended by a frind, it was under $3 and my acne scars are now evenly toned, as in they’re not visible or different colour from the rest of my skin, which is good.

What’s the name of it? The problem is I won’t use anything with hydroquinone or kojic acid in it so if it has either of those then for me it’s out. I’ve used hydroquinone in the past but I think it’s evil stuff.

I had this same problem. I went to the dermatologist and he prescribed Tretinoin plus I have been using Priori AHA products. My melasma has almost faded completely. The trouble is that if you are susceptible to it you are bound to get it over and over. You have to be religious about sun protection too.

Also, if you are prone to it (genetics or otherwise) you are bound to get it when you are pregnant and then it often fades afterwards.

I used Superfade Face for fading pigmentation on my face and it worked wonders. I began using the product after I read a review about it in a magazine. I bought it from my local chemist a few days later and after a few weeks of use i noticed a dramatic difference. I suspect it should work of melasma as the box says it fades brown blemishes but maybe check with the company or your pharmacist.

I don’t have very obvious pigmentation issues but there is a little and I’ve found that my Priori Coffeeberry Facial Brightening Complex has really got my face bright and more even. I think their AHA range as Giano mentioned would be even better for more serious problems.

I have been dying to try that superfade ever since it was recommended for my skin in the Skin Type Solutions book, I might end up giving it a go one day seeing as I had pretty positive results with the JP extreme makeover range :)
Stace I have some samples of the Coffeeberry I might have to give it a try too. Lol I really don’t know what I need for my skin atm, hoping to sort it out when I finally get to a salon :)

Isn’t the Eventone range meant to help with pigmentation? I’m sure there was a trial on it not too long ago and the reviews were pretty good.

I am going to see if I can organice myself a skincare regime with the help of a professional, so hopefully she can suggest what products I should be using and hopefully this might be able to be worked into my regime somehow, lol.

I’m new to this site and was doing research on Fraxel Laser for Pigmentation.
I’m glad I came across your post. I’ve had IPL as well, temporary.
Jenju where did you get the laser toning done???
Nothing has worked! I have tried all the Asian cremes I bought in China and Thailand also tried African/American Bleach cremes and specially mixed ones!!
What are you recent tries or was the laser toning permanent?
I NEED HELP. Has anyone else had any form of peel or other laser for melasma/ pigmentation.
