I’ve just read that the government is banning sunbeds. I think this is a great idea to help prevent skin cancer, but I am wondering if other people feel the same way. Should people have a right to use sun beds if they want to? (like people have the righ to smoke)
I am 28 and allergic to fake tan, when i was younger I liked to sun bake a fair bit and occasionally used the solarium until I had to get a mole removed because it changed colour/shape.

I think solariums should be banned as well. But then again, I’ve never felt the need to use one.

I’m all for this. I think that if we don’t do something about the incidence of skin cancer it’ll only get worse. I guess there’s the smoking debate, but this way at least if they really want to they can get real sun. Fake tan is the way to go.

Ok…so smoking is not banned but 100% but it is banned in public places and has heavy tax placed on the product which in theory is to help cover the hospital costs of the user so perhaps if we are to argue that people should be able to make a choice if they use solariums or not and they opt to use them then maybe they cost to use these machines should be taxed as much as ciggarettes are to cover the medical costs of those that end up with skin cancer.
Just a thought.
I think we can live quite happily without sun beds….the sooner they are gone the better

So glad they are banning it, it is dangerous and unnecessary, not worth cancer!

Yes, they should be banned. If you want to get awful skin, the sun is plentiful and free.

A ridiculous invention to begin with, it’s about time the government took action!

You have to wonder how they were approved in the first place. I also wonder why it is going to take 2 years to ban them.
I personally have never been tempted to use one – I am happy being pale lol :)

I’ve been to a solarium a few times and decided it’s not for me. If I really want a tan, I’ll just use a gradual tanner, otherwise I’ll be pale.
There is a solarium that just opened up and was offering cheap deals, especially for the under 18 year olds – that sort of stuff should be illegal and banned!!!
I wish they’d ban solariums in all states not just NSW.

I agree. Too many of my friends have had to have skin cancers removed. Although I have used them in the past. I am very much against sun tanning these days.

I’d rather be pale than be knowingly putting myself at risk of skin cancer.

Betweens the ages of 12 and 14 I was young and dumb. I think I already have it. No signs yet. but with my shoulders you can tell the sun has been at them.

I think cigarettes should be banned too, but there’s no way that would happen, not with all the money the tobacco companies make.

It is great that they are banning them but hasn’t the government been a bit slow? The tanning beds are already out there right now and some are going to keep them for black market tanning.
Yeah, I don’t think the cigarettes are going any time soon, we have a lady at work who smokes a lot who then makes jabs at a girl who goes and uses solariums. I think she is being a bit of a hipocrite since she smokes but then again I have never done either, therefore I should be allowed to make jabs at both of them :)
