waxing underarms? RSS

Ok, so here’s my story.
I’ve been shaving my underarms since i found them but being sick of doing it so often, i let them grow a bit (that was a bit gross) and went on to wax them.
So, this wax i’ve been using on my legs and they work well, it’s the Veet wax strips.
But when i tried to wax my underarms, all the wax was left behind and obviously, no hair was pulled out. The skin was left red raw and painful to the touch. Maybe it was because i didn’t pull it in the right direction?? The hairs aren’t that coarse either, i thought they would come out easily.

Anyone else had that problem or waxed their underarms successfully??

I’ve never waxed my underarms, but, I find that the wax that works on my legs doesn’t work on other area’s. I use Andrea’s Brazillian Wax for my face and bikini line, so maybe that’d work well on your underarms too.

Which way did you pull. You put the wax on in direction of hair growth and pull of in the opposite direction. You need to hold the skin taut and when you pull it of you kind of pull it back as close to the skin (not up into the air) and as quick as you can. Does this make sense? Hard to explain without a visual.

I forgot to mention that underarm hair can grow in a few different directions so you may need to go over it a couple of times always pulling in the opposite direction of the hairs.

i’m pretty sure i pulled the skin taut but i think i might have pulled it up which would explain the red skin…
well i’ll try again soon, hopefully it’ll work.
anyone tried the delipatory creams on underarms??

I have tried the delipatory creams but i’m not really into them. You have to wait 7 to 10 minutes and then you have to scrub it off. Your not removing it from the root so it grows back as quick as shaving, although finer it’s still alot of work for not much. I think pulling the wax strip up is definately the problem. If it was me I’d wait a day and then try again.

How about getting them waxed at a beautician to see how they do it, and then you can do it yourself once you know how it’s done?

cookiesncream, I get mine waxed by a beautician like glossqueen suggested and it’s only about $6 although I think that’s the student rate.

In between waxing I use depilatory cream, the green Veet aloe vera one which you leave on for 1 minute and then hop in the shower so it works while you shower =) Then you just wash it off. I do this gently using an exfoliating glove then rub dry with a towel. It’s best to avoid the direct stream of water though so it doesn’t get washed off straight away.

Thanks everyone for their advice!!
I’ve decided to wax mine at a beautician but how long do i have to wait before I can go? What I mean is, how long does the hair have to be before you can wax it properly?
Because i think the hair also didn’t come out properly because it was too short, although the wax strips pack says it can pull out hairs even 4mm short…

I hate that ‘5 o’clock shadow’ thing you get going on, it makes ur underarm look so dirty!

I would think if you didn’t shave them for a week that would be long enough, but maybe ask when you’re booking your appointment.

I’m lucky, I don’t get much underarm hair, and it grows relatively slowly.
Because of that I have no problems with sticking to shaving, but if it’s right for you, go ahead and wax.
It does sound like it’d be tricky to do yourself though, I think you’ve made the right decision in going to a beautician.

Hi Cookiesn Cream,
Your hair will need to be about .5cm in length for the beautician to wax you.
Pretty in pink is right about the wax and the hair growth, I use the nads salon devine wax for my underarms, no cloth strips etc. i apply it in two parts the upper part of my underarm and the lower part, apply the wax with the hair growth and pull in the opposite direction.
Going to the salon is how I learnt this, had some wonderful beauticians who were happy to tell what they were doing and why.
Good luck

Like pretty in pink said the hair on your underarms grows in different directions. With those wax strips the hair has to be quite long as well. At a beauticians they usually use “hard wax” which is more effective then the strip wax so it doesn’t need to be extremely long

I tried Veet wax ages ago, didn’t work for me. I get the impression Veet doesn’t do good products. Nair’s depilatory cream was ok, had to leave them the max. time to get good result. So after those experience I stick to shaving, quicker and more practical, no waiting around & pain to deal with.

As Sweet as said, my waxing lady uses the same wax under my arms as she does on my eyebrows – the wax that dries and gets peeled off, not the strip wax that is used on legs.

Always a wealth of knowledge from bh beauties and there’s more, I use to shave my armpits until i have a professional wax performed.

My therapist educated me well due to me growing out my stubble armpits lol… She clipped them first and applied talc before waxing then performed the task effortlessly leaving me hair and painfree!!

My first experience wasn’t very affective due to applying too much wax, I have now mastered this using a light application of talc followed by a light application of (Nair’s wax that I melt in the microduct) Ensure you keep the skin taut and pull away, if you still not keen on the DIY definitely seek a beautician within your area it is a inexpensive exercise leaving you looking and feeling oh soo good!

Hope this help!

I’ve had a similar experience when trying to use strip wax on my bikini line – all got stuck on there and made it all red. I think underarms are generally quite sensitive and you’re prob best doing like glossqueen does and using wax designed for brazilians etc – so it’s designed for sensitive areas.
.
I’ve personally never waxed my underarms – I can’t stand the waiting inbetween. I am considering getting them lasered however – then I’ll never have to worry again! :)

I would go with the professional….Like Pusstiss my waxer applied talc, while it hurt the first couple of times it gets easier…..and the results are fantastic….i wouldn’t consider trying it myself….too scared ! :)
