This is my 7 year old pussy cat Lizzie.. We just got home from holidays, and I had bought this snow leopard (so cute and soft) and had it sitting on my bed, and Liz came in and she’s got a new best friend haha, she is lying next to it, and each time I move it, she gets up and curls up next to hit haha

LOVE seeing everyone’s babies here (don’t know how I missed this thread before!).

Here’s one of my girls, Natasha – adopted her from an animal shelter about 7 years ago. She was aggressive to the other cats, hyperactive and literally climbing the walls of the compound, and it took months before she would purr or sit on my lap. These days she’s a total cuddle-bunny…ain’t it wonderful what love can do ♥

I feel for you. My bf’s dad’s dog (who was like our own) recently had to be put down as he was going downhill fast. We miss him everyday but know that he’s in a happier place now.

Gee…thinking of you ♥ Can’t imagine how I will cope when the time comes for my gals. I’ve only ever had one pet before, and he died of cancer when I was a teenager. We had no idea until one day he was struggling for breath…and I didn’t get to say goodbye because the vet put him down straight away…

It must be heartbreaking to watch jake decline, but he’s spending what time he has left surrounded by those that love him, and you’re making him as comfortable as possible :-) Big hug to you sb…

It was so fast, I went overseas last october and before hand I don’t think he was that bad. by the time we got back in the end of october, he was limping, and since then I’ve seen the lump get bigger each week. The vet said they could cut off his leg up high to buy him a little longer but I think that might be more traumatic than anything, having to heal and then learn to walk on three legs only for no real guarantee it’ll give him much longer, plus it would be very expensive :(
Bruno loves him too so hopefully he doesn’t get depressed :(

Is it a really horrible thing to keep him alive, putting off getting him put down? just we love him so much, especially my dad, he’s like his best friend and I’m very attached to him too… he’s practically grown up with me! I have no idea how I’ll react when he finally goes… I cry every time I see him struggling it’s just so horrible :’(

Dogs have a very special bond with each other and grieve in their own way. My bf’s dad’s other dog (Lily) was best friends with the one who is now in doggy heaven (Leichardt) and so when he was buried in the backyard, Lily came over to sit in the dirt where he was buried for a number of hours. She misses him and it’s obvious, but now she spends more time with people so she’s not so lonely. I think as long as they have company that’s the main thing. I’ve always had the opinion that when the get to a certain point, they shouldn’t have to suffer any longer. Treasure your time with him and you’ll both appreciate it when the time comes to let him go.

It’s a difficult decision – in the case of our siamese, the vet said that he could cut out the cancerous growth in his throat, but it would undoubtedly grow back, so my Mum opted to let him go. Not being able to do the things they used to or as well as they used is one thing, but I think if my pets were in pain that wasn’t manageable with medication, then that would be the decider :-)

Jake looks adorable, my baby Bonnie (chihuahua) is near 18yrs old and is getting slower so quickly now that I often think about what it would be like without her now.

Know exactly how you feel. My dog (also a staffy) had cancer. We had it removed, it was quite pricey but was worth the extra time it gave him. It was on his back/rump area, so wasn’t anything like having to remove a limb, which I think in your case as you said, would be way too traumatic.

Dogs do have a close bond, and Bruno will be upset.They are such gorgeous creatures and they mourn just like we do (a few years before we put our Staffy down we also lost our other dog to illness and he was quite upset when she was gone). But it just takes a bit of time and it will get easier for the both of you. It’s a hard decision to make, trust me I know. Just make sure you give yourself some time to say goodbye xo

Oh dear :( I’m sorry to hear that. He must be suffering so much.

I remember the day we had to make the hard decision to put our pet Georgie down. She was leaving bloody marks everywhere because of her bladder infection & couldn’t even crawl to her drink bowl, so I had to bring it to her. The words on my screen look blurry now cos I’m tearing up…

But we love our pets and we have to do the right thing for them, so be strong…

This is my little girl Mooks. She’s 8 years old and really small (about 1/2 to 2/3 the size of my dads cat) I got her from the cat protection society when she was 4 months old and she was terrified. She hid behind the washing machine and it took me 2 hours of talking calmly on the phone to my friends about her for her to feel safe enough to come out. She decided to lie down on my legs and since thenI have been the only person she’s ever loved. She plays fetch with me (using twist ties off bread) and begs for food. She follows me around the house and wont go outside for more than 30 mins without coming back to check on me.
She’s the cutest, sweetest cat ever! But she hisses at most people and runs away. She lets my boyfriend pat her when Im there and will even sleep on his lap, but when I go away and someone has to feed her for me they general get faced with a hiss and her hiding under my bed! My brothers scared of her but she would never even dream of hurting anyone ever, she just runs away.
