How-to: get rid of dry feet

The feeling of rough, dry feet that scrape against the bed sheets can be enough to wake you in the middle of the night and send you into a foot moisturising frenzy. Dry flaky skin, cracked heels and peeling feet are, let’s face it; positively cringe-worthy. What’s worse is, for some of us – it doesn’t seem to matter how often we moisturise, we just can’t get rid of that horrible sandpapery feeling. Thankfully though, armed with the right tools, you can say goodbye to peeling feet for good.

Not all moisturisers are equal.
Some of the most luxurious feeling and sweet smelling lotions are also the most ineffective when it comes to treating really dry feet. If you want to banish cracked heels and dry flaky skin, the best cream to use is a sorbolene cream containing vitamin E, which you can pick up from your local chemist or supermarket. Unlike many moisturisers, which simply maintain soft skin, sorbolene cream will actually help to repair damaged skin ie: peeling feet. Vitamin E has been proven to help promote elasticity and break down hard skin, improving overall softness.

Sock it
It may seem slightly odd, but wearing socks over a thick layer of moisturising cream is one of the best ways to repair dry peeling feet. Slather your feet in sorbolene or petroleum jelly before bed, leaving a visible layer over the surface of the skin, then cover with an old pair of cotton socks. The socks will seal the moisturising properties of the cream/gel in overnight. The result: ultra-smooth feet.

Some like it hot
While we all enjoy a hot shower, exposing your feet to really hot water for prolonged periods is a sure-fire way to suck out all of their natural moisture – so turn the temperature down and keep your showers warm, rather than scalding.
