Time out with Tahnee

Seeing that it’s all about teens this week, there’s no better youngster to have a natter with than last season’s winner of Australia’s Next Top Model, and the newest face of NIVEA Visage…the lovely Tahnee Atkinson!
She took some time out from the glamorous world of top modeling to answer our questions (most of which were submitted by you!).

Lilypilly: How do you feel about your growing fame at such a young age?

TA: It’s weird because I really don’t see myself as famous, so it’s kind of strange to have people come up to me on the street and ask for autographs and photographs. I feel like I’m just another normal teenager – used to living at home and having my mum cook dinner for me every night! I guess I try not to think about the fame aspect that much. I’m just really grateful for the opportunity, so am enjoying it while it lasts.

Dancenow/Beauty Obsession/Jatz: Do you still keep in touch with any of the girls from ANTM?

TA: I keep in contact with a lot of them over Facebook and email, and we’ll sometimes have group discussions about what we’ve been up to, but we don’t keep in touch as much as I thought I would. But I do see Lola quite a bit because she lives near me, and I also see Adele out and about occasionally too. I guess it’s kind of like high school - you bond a lot while you’re there but afterwards you drift your separate ways.

Vivalicious Beauty/Stay C: Do you find that there’s a lot of pressure for you to be super skinny in the modeling industry?

TA: Not really, but then I guess I’m seen as the ‘curvy’ chick, so I’m doing work with brands and labels that are looking for curvier, fuller figures – you know, like lingerie and swimwear. But I also do other things that skinnier models would do, and so far no one’s pressured me to lose weight.

Bh: How do you feel about being the new face of NIVEA Visage?

TA: I am really excited to work with such a great brand, one that everyone knows and loves. When you ask people about NIVEA, most say that they grew up with it – their grandmother, mother, sister, and even brother all used NIVEA. I love NIVEA because it’s a real, honest brand that delivers what it promises without being fake. I guess I try to be similar as a person – down to earth, natural, and just me!

Jatz: What was it like being the trophy girl at the Logies?

TA: (laughs)...It was really fun, but I thought I’d just be there handing out the trophies and nothing else – I definitely didn’t think I’d be asked anything! So when Bert Newton started asking me questions I was so shocked – I didn’t even know he knew my name!

Bh: Who were you most excited to meet that night?

TA: I got to meet so many cool people at the Logies, but I was really excited to see Bert Newton in real life. I’ve been watching him on TV since I was a little girl so it was really cool to see him up close – I just stared at him! It was also great to meet all of the Home and Away stars too because I’ve been watching the show for so long.

Bh: What are your top three can’t-live-without beauty products?

TA: NIVEA Toner is definitely one of them. I use it after I take off my make-up, because there’s so much product that gets put on to my skin when I’m doing a job, it’s often hard to get it all off. The toner really gets into your pores and takes off all the make-up left behind after you’ve cleansed.
I also love moisturiser – for body and face. I moisturise every day, it’s my favourite ritual. And I love lipgloss too. Something really moisturising that also give a bit of shine.

BH: What’s your favourite make-up style?

TA: I love the natural look, but with a bit of a glow. So bronzed skin, with some illumination on the side of the eyes, but still very natural looking.

We went behind the scenes with Tahnee at the filming of her new NIVEA Visage adverts...stay tuned for our footage, as well as for the new season of Australia's Next Top Model, which airs on Fox 8 from 20th July 2010.
