Hoorah! It’s Oscars time!

Hoorah! It’s Oscars time! If you’re anything like us, we bet you can’t wait to see what the stars are wearing as they strut their stuff down the red carpet.

And what’s just as important as the gowns on this glamorous night? The hairstyles of course! After all, whether you’re wearing Versace or Dior, you won’t be getting the snaps you deserve if your ‘do is letting you down.

But before we get into the gallery of star-studded styles, we thought we’d get you a few quick tips from the experts – you know, for when you have your night of nights…

“To ensure your hair is in optimum condition for your big night, I recommend weekly hydration treatments and hair masks in the lead up,” advises Brett Albury of Sydney’s SUKI salon. “And always use a heat protection spray when working with thermal styling equipment – it’s imperative to maintaining good hair health.”

“Make sure that your hairstyle works with your dress,” says Caterina Di Biase of Melbourne’s Heading Out Hair & Beauty. “If you’re wearing a very detailed dress I would recommend that hair be worn back…otherwise there’ll just be too much going on.”

“A low side bun teamed with fingerwaves is one of the most requested looks when it comes to 'hair up',” says Albury. “The look beautifully fuses modern and classic and says ‘instant glamour’ – especially when complemented with a red lip.”

Want the chance to look as glam as the celebs in our gallery? We’ve teamed up with the good people at the Australian Hair Council (AHC) to give you the chance to win a cut and colour consultation at an accredited AHC salon, plus salon services to the value of $300! And the good news is we’ve got eight to give away – so there’ll be one winner per state and territory!

For your chance to win, simply scroll through our Oscars 2011 ‘Star-studded styles’ gallery, and tell us, in the comments section of this page, who wins your vote for best hair and why.

Who wins your vote for best hair, and why?

Competition closes midnight Monday March 7th 2011.

I favour Scarlett's look - it's young, cool and fresh. She doesn't look overdone, but rather effortless. A big improvement from some of her other recent 'dos.

I love Anne Hathaway's hair-do the most as this hair style is making her look like a goddess of elegance. This hair-do is complementing her off-shoulder red dress and focusing mainly on her beautiful neck... :)

Without a doubt it has to be Mila Kunis. The swept off the the side chignon is classic and elegant while the wavy texture makes the style more romantic, whimsical and fresh. This hairstyle compliments her pale lavender lacy dress perfectly.

Reese Witherspoon has nailed it here! hair, make-up, accessories - such a fresh look!
My next would be.. Maria Menounous - although it's been done many times, the loose curls are a glamorous look!

Loving Scarlett's hair the most, normally I love an intricate up-do so I have to give young Hailee the best new-comers award, but Scarlett's relaxed but edgy do really works with her plum, lace dress as she has a little bit of old and a little bit of new all blended together. I'm really loving the bronde shade she has happening at the moment too since it warms up her complexion and just looks more real than the bleach blonde whe was originally famous for. I just think she looks comfortable and in control whereas some celebs look like their hairdresser has gone crazy and left them with a look they would never pick themselves.

I absolutely love Reese Witherspoons do. What a beautiful way to wear a pony tail, it totally compliments her face and I think a nice pony tail can take years off your face.

Anne certainly does Hath-a-way with style! and her hairstyle is no exception. Effortless elegance without being contrived is always a winner - she looked absolutely stunning.

Although quite overdone I think that Maria Menounous gets my vote. I think anyone with this style looks angelic and softens the face. It will be cut out of all magazines to place in the hairdressing mags for wedding picks!

Hailee Steinfeld looks so much like a perfect fairytale princess - everything about her - her dress, makeup and hairdo. Each aspect of her 'look' complements the other and is very well put together. So very sweet she is! (What nearly knocked me and my own 13 year old daughter off our perch though is her young age - she's almost the same age as my daughter!! Wow!)

My pick of the bunch is Reece Witherspoon, although there were plenty of gorgeous looking ladies in that gallery!
I picked Reece because firstly her hair-do is smooth and polished while still being fun and flirty. Secondly, the style also looks fairly hassle free so she won't need to be fussing and fixing it all night. The Oscars and it's after parties are reknowned for going into the wee hours of the morning so Reece will be grateful that she has a style that will last the distance!
The third thing I liked about this hair-do is that it really shows off the health and shine of her hair; I thought that some of the other styles, while still being elegant and beautiful, did not 'display' the hair well.

I love Mila Kunis' do. Sezy, feminine, tousled, yet polished. Her whole look for the Oscars is so perfect. Every aspect compliments the other.
Also loving Hailee Steinfeld's elegant up do. Perfect for showing off her long neck and 'backless' dress.

Hailee Steinfeld looks absolutely angelic yet so sophisticated. I just love the cool elegance of her hairstyle with this stunning gown..she still looks her age but shines on the red carpet and easily outdoes the others in the style stakes.

I love Reece's hair. She looks young and fresh, effortless without being too casual, and I think this 'do just really suits her face.

Scarletts looks really cute I think, I love the colours and the cut. But Reece's is really nice, I like the volumous look and it really suits her face.

Cate Blanchett - very casual, natural and it has a clean look to it. The fringe also softens the face.

I love Hilary Swank chignon it complements her off shoulder dress. Her make up looks so natural and chignon with hair accessory is icing on the cake and totally looks fab.

I absolutely love Reese Witherspoon, even though its classy and elegant but it seems effortless at the same time. Glamorous looking but without the fuss. I totally love it...

Reese Witherspoon for me here! It is simple, but sexy as well, and it complements with what she's wearing, open up her face even more, and with hair up like that, it doesnt distract me from her dress as well. In other words, very neat.

I really like Cate Blanchetts hairstyle. Natural looking but so sleek and clean which frames her face beautifully.
